I have recently purchased a 6 month old Grande Punto Eleganza which has
1 usb in glove box, I have tried my daughters Ipod, and a cheaper MP3 player and tried two different 2mb flash/pen drives but cant get any to work, media player does'nt even show anywhere.
Can someone advise me on settings in the car or any other ideas ??
PLEASE HELP

Just in case... in my GP the ignition needs to be on in order for the media player to work.

USB memory sticks are the lowest common denominator and everyone I've tried has worked fine - as Captain Chaos says it sounds like you may have a fault there.

Cheers
Robin

This definately doesnt sound right. In my opinion the best thing to do is get a usb flash drive, put a folder on it (call it whatever you like) and put a few tracks in it, nothing outside the folder. Stick it in the usb port before you put the key in the ignition. When its in turn the car on, press the windows button on the steering wheel and when it beeps say "Folders". If it repeats it back to you then use the up and down arrows on the right side of the steering wheel, if it shows your folder press ok and then see if you can select a track and press ok again.

This all sounds a bit long winded but i had the same problem with my Sporting, it just would not show the media player using the SRC button. With the voice commands however it worked fine, now it works ok either way.

Hope this helps.

What you most likely have is not blue and me but the similar system called convergence kit fitted on the earlier model cars. The main difference is that it will only work with an IPOD. You will still have bluetooth.
Fiat sell an IPOD interface - the usb on the glove box will not work on early models or lower range models.
I have bought one of these from Fiat for my GP Sporting. - you should check with the dealer for your model before you buy though
Part number is - 50901536 Approx £70
This then plugs into back of the radio and threads through to the small tray behind the ashtray. Then plugs in to an IPOD.
This will operate IPOD from the steering wheel controls or radio.
The setup is defaulted to run from playlists created with itunes.
Unfortunatly there is no holder for the IPOD with this kit.

Well worth it though.

hope this helps

Obviously make sure the songs are in Mp3 format ONLY....not AAC, WMA etc

Mine plays Mp3 and WMA. It is after all a Windows based system.

Also, not all pen drives will work with Blue & Me. I use a 2Gb SanDisk Cruzer Micro. (y)

In reply to some of your comments, In looking at the front of my Sound system book it does say "Hands-Free kit with Voice Recognition and Bluetooth Wireless Technology".
So maybe ? it may not be what I thought ?
It certainly does not have windows button on steering.
Can I upgrade to be compatible ?

No you can not just buy the kit i described above you will not be dissapointed. seems to work better than b & M as you can play any format on your ipod.

Early Grande's only had bluetooth- sorry!

If yours only has the single USB port, and it's situated at the top of the glovebox in the center, with no Windows button on the steering wheel, it's definitely just bluetooth-enabled. The USB port in this version is the interface for the Convergence ECU and purely for software updates- sticking USB sticks in there may cause problems! (Fiat now fit a blanking plug over this to prevent such issues)

Systems with Blue+Me have their USB/MP3 player upload port to the left-hand side in the glovebox, with the Convergence ECU port still at the top with a windows logo next to it.

I'm 99% certain it cannot be upgraded as the wiring isn't there for the second USB port, plus you'd need the Blue+Me Convergence ECU and probably the radio unit too....... not cheap!
