Hey Guys,

Have been browsing the forum for a while now and getting some great tips from it. I've had my GP since Sept 06 but have not done much with it in the way of modifiying it. I notice that some of you have been talking about remapping. What is this and what will it do for the car??

Thanks,

Mike

basically an upgraded ecu programme that allows the full potential out of the engine i believe as dealers have it restricted for some reason or another, it will increase bhp levels by around 10 and also increase the torque, but the effect it makes is dependant on your engine size.

the deisels see more benefit than petrols thought. the 130bhp and be taken up to about 170bhp without too much trouble. probably because a turbo'd engine remaps better than a normally aspirated one.

Diesels have better results from a re-map than petrols because they are much stronger engines and can take a lot more strain on the standard internals. Turbo cars also stand to make big increases. The reason a re-map can produce so much more power is because when a company produces a car they produce it for all over the world where the conditions will be worse than ours (dont know how this can be possible when you see some of our roads but never mind) and also to run on lower quailty fuel. Seeing as our cars will not be used in these conditions we can re-map our cars and get their full potential.

If you drive a 1.9 Sporting you will never regret doing it, the car changes totally. Its fantastic :D .

I have the 1.4 16v Sporting. Has anybody ere remapped there 1.4 Sporting?

you can not get a remap for the 1.4 16v with angel YET but there is one on the way have emailed them to comfirm this not sure on bhp gain but 10-15 at a guess

Is there another term for "remap"? I don't think I've heard of this term used locally..

I did a rough estimation with a performance calculator and it quotes around 7.5ish seconds. It certainly feels that quick. Ive had a go with some quick cars since and you would be surprised at the results of some of them.

But "chipping" a car is very different to just remapping its ECU, LuvDuvs. The whole point (well, its main selling point) about remapping the parameters used in the ECU is that it is part of the car, not some bolt on (that fools the original ECU to give better performance).

Racing teams have dedicated staff who constantly 'tweak' the ECU map - they re-map the engines daily!

Whilst in practice this might not mean much, it does mean a remap is (effectively) undetectable by anyone. Except the driver, of course!

what kind of cars ya bin up against and what sort of results ya had? just curious thts all haha (y)

Ive had a go against a Civic Type-R, Mk5 Golf GTi and a chav driven Saxo VTS that are worth talking about.

The Type-R was from a standing start at traffic lights waiting to join the M6. He was away first and got to about 2 car lengths and by that point i was into 2nd and started to catch him. By the time i was changing into 4th i was just ahead of him. When a vtec is driven properly though and taken right upto the redline i wouldnt fancy the same outcome.

The Golf had no chance at all, i dont know if i caught him on the hop but he tried to give it some but had nothing. He pulled out from behind me and obviously wanted to go fast, i just put my foot down in 4th and left him.

The VTS was the best though. Sitting at the lights as you do and this VTS pulled up next to me, all kitted out, wheels the size of an old satellite dish. It was full of chavs and this lad wanted to look good in front of his mates. He put the window down (first mistake), put his r n b on as loud as he could (second mistake) and then revved his car and tried to race me (biggest mistake, lol, :D ). I put it in second and absolutely smoked him. Great fun. Moments like that just make my day even if it is a bit silly.

Yeah it shouldnt be long at all now. I no what you mean, although on a serious note, i dont no what sort of power you are used to but really be careful as the GP really can go some and i wouldnt want to hear of any more accidents. And also bear in mind that mine is re-mapped so ive got a bit of an advantage, lol.

Also take it easy on the engine for at least the first 1k miles. I know it will be hard but it really will be beneficial. If you give it that time to run in it will loosen up and be quicker afterwards. With the diesels you dont really need to go past 3k revs anyway as all your power is between about 1700 rpm and 3-4k rpm.
