Ok I freely admit slightly self serving here but I figure this could come in useful to anyone collecting a new GP in the future.

What are common things found wrong on the new gp's (I know there were a lot of common issues, like squealing brakes, door locks that broke, warped glove boxes etc but I think looking at forum posts these are getting rarer with the new GP's) and what things should you check before you drive away from the dealership?

Actually while I'm asking can someone lay something to rest for me, because there are loads of threads about it but none of them have had a black and white answer that someone who doesn't know his wobbly bolt from his offset rim hole can understand... If I wasn't happy using the fix and go kit in a Sporting what are my options? (keep it simple, some people are easily confused )

Also anything the new GP user should do to the car when he gets it? (I'm assuming wax and polish till it blinds people when in direct sunlight to protect the thin paint, anything else?)

Buy a 6J x 15 Steel rim. Fit it with a 185/65 R15 88T tyre. Buy a jack and wheel brace kit off Ebay, the Mk 2 Punto one is fine, stick them all in the boot and Bob's your uncle (y)

You also have to buy new wheel nuts don't you?
What size?

Cool finally a nice simple answer to the spare wheel issue!

Where would be the best place to pick the steelie? Scappies?

I got one off Ebay. I've seen one or two others since.

As for the wheel bolts, I asked at the dealers for 4 bolts to fit a steel wheel to the G.P. When I got home and compared them to the ones removed to fit the locking bolts I found that they were the same length!! So I took them back. I have since found out elsewhere that the standard fit Fiat alloys do indeed use the same bolts as the steel wheels. (y)
