Received my recall letter from Fiat and VOSA on Monday when returned from work, pretty worrying "possible loss of steering" sort of grabs the attention!
Rang Dealer, Bostons of Stafford straight away and booked in for Thursday(today).
Arrived at about 9am, after a short while they took car into workshop and said all ok, I beleive they have to measure something in steering column??
Anyway mine's alright glad to say.
All in all resolved quickly and without any fuss by the dealer and we can rest easy knowing we are'nt going to go off at the first corner we see!!
Anyone else had this recall and any details of what is actually the problem and what is doine to check/rectify?

I'm a little confused !!,i have also had a 'recall' for the steering column, quoting exactly as described in thread. Is there a problem or not,if not why are cars being called back to dealers.
Mine's going in on tuesday...i'll ask

I cant work out if mine is in that list.... dont know how the vin thing works...is it only cars with the exact number????

mine ends 164880???

If you click on Grande Punto it states 'steering column',maybe it's just punto's with the pulley problem.

a crankshaft pulley is not a Steering column

If you bothered to read what I said, you would see that it states: if the pulley brakes there may be a loss of power steering resulting in steering failure.

I said they might be related, I do know the difference between the steering column and a crankshaft pulley.

Only trying to help, but wont bother if even site admin just give short shrift replies

these recalls are a new one to me, according to the VOSA website they were only issued on 20/04/07 and don't just affect the GP!

Out for ages mate (around xmas) the VOSA site is rather out of date & bit dodgy(dramatic?) on information.

Your right, affects stilo, punto, idea but only a few vehicles need new pulley ( I have never known one being done) but Fiat issued recall just in case.

first 3 are model code (199=GP.....188 mk2 punto etc etc) its the last 8 that are the important numbers,in your case 00164880.

Thus........3 batches of GP(199) are effected...

ZFA19900000010004 to ZFA19900000010004
ZFA19900001000014 to ZFA19900001094860
ZFA19900000000688 to ZFA19900000087968

Rob your vehicle is therefore not affected.

Iam sorry to contradict you, but the letter categorically stated Steering column , I started the thread to see what it was about, not to receive what reads like a bol****** thanks a lot!

i never quoted you, i just cleared up that its a diffrent part. it dosent say "may be a loss of power steering resulting in steering failure" its says may be a loss in assistance.

i just want our members to have a clearer view that is all, not panic them

now if you had posted this one http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosa/apps/re...asp?uniqueID=16A703340878578580257282004BFDA0 it may be a diffrent story

If your not prepared to accept the advice of people here then why post.Wether you agree with it or not is up to you but dont call it bol***** !

Dave has supplied you with the details in his last post......which is the LOWER STEERING SHAFT not the steering column as you incorrectly suggest!

(p.s. please post tech questions in tech section)

Recall is listed in the recall post sticky (it is very likely this is where your knocking noise is coming from)........garage had no right to ask for a fee to check!
