Technical Steering column recall

Why do you have to pay? You have only had your car a few months right? Wheel alignment is a possible charge.

NOTE...there has been a amendment to this recall issued last week so make sure your dealer is aware of it(y)

yeh car is new, still under the 1st year warranty and only done 800 miles, what is the amendment ?

Well, booked it in, went to dealers, sat there for a few hours, then bloke comes out tells me they cant do it because they need a part !!!! FFS, did they not think about that before they booked me in (should they know this, or do they check when they see it), so off i went whole morning wasted and now i got to wait for a phone call to tell me when the part is in !!

Sounds like my local dealer, now redundant from my services. There are good service staff out there, its just finding them. For me it was going out of the county, hope it gets sorted Shaun.

My dealer told me Fiat do not allow them to keep the parts in stock. Instead they must measure the existing part to ensure it is within the allowable tollerances - and if it is isn't order a new one. The rationale I was given for this is that Fiat want to identify the affected vehicles.

I understand very few vehicles require replacement parts - but it doesn't give a very good impression of customer service if yours is one of the affected ones.

That sounds reasonable.. last time my dash demister needed replacing my dealer apparently had one in stock (though whether they actually replaced it or just "fixed" the faulty part I will never know).

Thing is when you have to tell that to customer who has travelled 60 miles only to go back home & return few days later....240miles!(£25 fuel) they get abit annoyed. We keep at least one in stock for such reasons(y)

Exactly (y)

i never quoted you, i just cleared up that its a diffrent part. it dosent say "may be a loss of power steering resulting in steering failure" its says may be a loss in assistance.

i just want our members to have a clearer view that is all, not panic them

now if you had posted this one http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosa/apps/re...asp?uniqueID=16A703340878578580257282004BFDA0 it may be a diffrent story

I've just checked the above recall notice. I pick up my July 2006 built Grande
Punto on Tuesday. Does this mean it will need to have the steering shaft inspection? Or should I make them inspect it before I take delivery of the vehicle?:(

Iirc this only affects earlier models so yours should be ok, but check post 12 of this thread.

Mine's Jul 06 built as well, though bought in late Oct 06. Sounds like they're clearing old stock in your case?
