well a friend of mine has said after putting bigger wheels on you should change the ecu to make it run more smoothly with the bigger wheels and to get the speedo right again.

I might be wrong but how is the speedo related to the size of the wheel?

Aside from the fact that they look better, can someone convince me why I should invest in AUD1000+ for a set of 17s when I have a set of 15s that works perfectly fine?

Wouldnt have a clue, you were the ones that said you wanted new wheels! haha
if your going to change them you may as well get something that makes it look like you changed them!

There are very few reasons to go for 17s aside from the asthetical appeal. Not only do they cost more, but low profile tyres will be extra and the ride quality will be harder.

However a harder ride quality feels more sporty but won't be as comfortable.

The only other plus I could think of are resale... maybe be worth a tiny bit more when you come to sell it or it may just make it easier to sell.

To be honest steel wheels do the job. 15" alloys do the job. So do 17" alloys. It's simply down to how you want your car to look. I personally wouldn't replace 15" alloys with different alloys of the same size.

One thing you've got to bear in mind is in 12-18 months time will you be regretting you went for the smaller wheels?

Go for what you want, if it costs a little more and you have to save a tad longer, it would be worth it in the long run ;)

The change in wheels idea popped up to match the stripes idea..

Yep I see what you're saying: I'm thinking, why would I spend that much on something that works the same as something that I already have (hope that makes sense)? Rather than flogging that money into something that depreciates over time I might as well invest it in a blue chip stock and watch the money grow instead..

Unless it really does make a huge difference (in terms of looks/performance etc) then I would probably just paint the wheel covers white to match the stripes (hard to imagine what that would look like though).

Know what? I'm going to try and book this guy in and see if he can help. By the look of his work he seems to be quite an expert - http://www.dentmaster.com.au/index.php?categoryid=10

Let's hope he's good with extremely shallow dents. Last email I got from him he quoted AUD150 which isn't too bad for a mobile service. If that still can't rid the dent then I'll seriously consider my mini GP project..

Here's the latest update: he's going to come around this Saturday morning to try and have the dents removed at approximately AUD120-150 - said he uses a special light that allows him to see the dent clearly. If he can't remove them I won't be charged. Fingers crossed!!

Is there any way you can get a photo of this dent? I'm really curious to see how noticible it is now.

It would be easier to see with a video clip, but here's a photo anyway. The bit circled in yellow is the original dent. The bit in red is the much larger new dent. If you look very carefully the house in the reflection is bent (arrow) - compare this with the reflection of the car in green.

You must think I'm hallucinating or just freaking anal to the max, but I swear its there!!

I tried so hard and.....still couldn't find anything!! :p

Don't worry I believe you, but if you ask me it sounds so obscure that you would barely notice it unless you knew it was there. To me if there isn't a visible indentation and if you can only see it while looking at it from a certain angle at a certain time of day then maybe I'd just live with it.

I'm VERY fussy when it comes to these things but sometimes you just have to let it go sometimes, otherwise every little annoyance in life will drive you nuts!

It is really hard to tell from the photo though, I think I can make out a cloud above the house and a really flat car on the left... lol :D

Well the photo doesn't do it much justice; you would need to fix your sight at the spot, then move around and bang! there's the bent reflection. The PDR guy should be able to see it with his 'special' light; I just hope he's skillful enough to get rid off it.

That's actually just the sky and my neighbour's Mazda in the background :)

Ok with the dents pretty much now gone I'm going to hold off from adding the stripes.. but getting the windows tinted is a must!
