General Depreciation

General Depreciation

As a percentage overall, you probably lose the most the second you drive it out of the dealers. Mine's a lease car and they account for 40% of original price (mine was £12950 with extras) after 4 years, so if I wanted to buy it from them when the lease is up (which I won't - I like getting the new car!) I would need to part with £5180.

WOW  , that is quick. Man, i bet he felt well stupid :D

Would of been interesting to see how the dealer reacted - would they have given the guy another bike or would they have just laughed their heads off? I know which one I would have done

If I was the bike dealer I'd laugh a lot, guy was obviously not up to having a bike like that and would have probably killed himself doing the same thing on a wet road somewhere.
As for depreciation, I read somewhere that the GP is reckoned to have lower depreciation that equivalent motors although I don't know what they can base that on. In the first six months, don't forget that as soon as you drive teh car off the forecourt you've lost the VAT/Car tax straight away, never mind depreciation.

I think to a certain degree the guy was trying to show off, and he probably wasn't up to scratch on the bike anyway.

Yeh I'm just going to forget about depreciation for now and focus on enjoying the car :)

Depreciation! OMG!!!!

Evening all...

Was feeling a bit bored tonight so went to see how much webuyanycar.com would give me for my GPS...

It's on a 57 plate, 5,000miles, mint condition and pretty standard....besides the remap. ;)

Anyway...shock horror, the price they came back with was £6710!!! Around 50% of the ticket price!!! WTF!!!!!

You might say, dumb place to sell your car, but I sold my last car a C2 VTS to them as I was in a hurry to raise some cash. MY VTS was 19 months old, 12k miles and they gave me £6955 for it. Also bear in mind I paid £9k for the Citroen brand new and £10k for the GPS.

I dread to think what it will be worth in a year or so when I do probably come to sell it!(n)

Re: Depreciation! OMG!!!!

To Scrogg and T....I got major discount on my Citroen too (pretty much around £3k on both models) and the GPS is looking like a Lada in comparison to it. Citroen's are hardly renowned for holding their value are they?

I lost only £2k in over 18 months on my VTS even by selling it to webuyanycar...

Pretty shocking really...

Also to T...Do you know anything about webuyanycar? They seemed very professional when they bought my Citroen and gave me exactly what they quoted over the internet when I took it to them for inspection. Was very impressed to be honest. Glass' guide only valued it at £7.3k for a private sale at the time. Good deal me thinks... (y)
