hya fellas, has anyone lookd into getting a dump valve or actually had this done? its is one of the onli 2 mods i think i am going to do! Cheers peeps (y)

i would have thought it would be for the 1.9 sporting...

tbh, if you're going to fit one, then i would fit a bov and blanking plate (has the 1.9 got a recirc valve???) so you get a varied noise, as the dv will only give one note...

What's a bov and blanket plate?

a bov is a blow off valve and the blanking plate will fit over the hole on the recirculating valve which will give a more wrc dump valve sound as oppose to just a 'dump' noise. :)

if the car has a recirc, changing to atmopsheric will more lilkely confuse the ECU. Guessing it uses a MAF sesnor to monitor the air flow, if you are dumping air to atmopshere that has passed through that sensor then the engine thinks it has more in there than it does and will cock up the fueling/timing.

hence the blanking plate.

Am I missing something here, but dont diesels have to use those gay electronically activated DV's?

Puntoboy is correct about the VAG lot having to use uprated recirc's. I had to do this on my old Cupra, and then to get the 'noise' you are probably after you will need to also add a metal CAI. (This is on petrol though, not diesel)

See HERE for more info on a diesel DV

I see a red GP sporting 1.9 mjtd at guildford cruise before i got mine, which had a dump valve on it and it just sounded gash cause the mjtd aint exactly the quietest diesel engine, so just got the big rev of noise from the engine then a crappy little tish...

I wouldnt bother tbh and leave dump valves, etc to petrol turbos...

you missed my point aswell... re-read yourself!

no, you are talking about plugging the old hole up with a plate - which is clearly something you need to do. my point was that by dumping air from the manifold that has already been through the MAF sensor you will confuse the ECU.

If say 300cm2 of air has passed through the sensor, and then you lift off - normally this is dumped from one side of the turbo to the other. With an atmopsheric dump valve, this air will dumped back to the atmopshere. As far as the ECU is concerned there is still 300cm2 of air as it knows it has a recirculating dump valve.

so whats the worst that would happen if your right arc? For a few rpm's there'll be a smich more fuel in the engine, not really a problem is it?

That'll be abit on the senative side if I do say so myself. Rip it all out then, go carb hehe
