Re: Replace the Diesel Fuel Filter

Done y'day, 10 minute job and well worth it, my filter was the original fitting and has done 58k! Performance is totally different, no sluggish or hesitance on acceleration, air filter changed as well.

Fuel Filter 23 & Air Filter 8.54, both off ebay.

Re: Replace the Diesel Fuel Filter

Great article this.
I've just done mine so this is how i did it. Dont remove any fuel pipes.

Unclip the electical connector on top of the filter unit.

Place some plactic sheeting under the unit to catch the spilt diesel.

Use a hammer and block of wood to undo the filter cap tapping gently until it starts to move. Once loose, unscrew. It unscrews ANTICLOCKWISE

Lift screw connector out of the way and lift the filter assembly out of the filter housing. this is where the desiel gets spilt

Take the old filter off and stick the new one on.

change the 'O' ring on the housing for the new one.

Gently put the assembly back into the filter housing an allow the filter to soak up some desiel.

Put the screw connector back on and tighten it hand tight.

Clean up any desiel spilt

Get your block of wood and hammer and start tapping it clockwise. It is going to have to be very tight so gently but firmly.

Once happy reconnect the electical connector and fire up the ignition to active the pump and check for leaks. If its leaking keep checking it and tapping it until it stops. Always clean the desiel up after you. the filter top has to be very tight.

I did it without even taking the unit out of the car and didnt disconnect any pipes. No leaks and the car drives notacibly better particularly before the turbo kicks in. I changed the air filter as well at the same time.

Hope this helps others. So long as you use some common sense its an easy job.

Re: Replace the Diesel Fuel Filter

Hi there had the same problem , just changed the fuel filter started the engine and the engine light has appeared and stays lit in the instrument ......so I forgot to bleed the filter which I did via the bleed valve but it didn't have an effect until I unclipped the thick fuel line, I heard the filter gurgle away. sorted no more engine light !!!!

Cheers

Re: Replace the Diesel Fuel Filter

The system Self Bleeds

Turn the ignition on..

Let the fuel pump tun a few cycles

CHECK FOR LEAKS

then start the engine

MUCH easier than the old mechanical injectors.. air locks were a pain
