Re: Replacing the bulbs in the heater controls

GUTTED! I was up until midnight last night doing this on my daughter's car - I wish I'd seen this how-to!

Just to add, on her car, the wires to each off the bulb holders were tucked behind a plastic tab on the back of the heater control box, so if you just feel for them and pull on them, you might not get the bulb holder out (or damage the wires). you need to untuck them and then pull. (Although by then, I'd taken the control out so I could see them)!

Re: Replacing the bulbs in the heater controls

Unfortunately LED replacement bulbs won't work, they'll be just blinking (even with ignition off). At least one bulb must be real (or a resistor).

Re: Replacing the bulbs in the heater controls

Thought these images of the back of the Grande Punto heater unit reflected in a small shaving mirror might be of interest as they show the wires you need to pull to extract the bulbs in their holders. Also visible is one of the small plastic tabs mentioned in Avocet's post above (16) that holds the wires in place.

One last thing I would add: if replacing the left-hand bulb turn the temperature control to cold to move the mechanism out of the way.

Re: Replacing the bulbs in the heater controls

Hey!

Thank you so much for this post! I managed to fix one of my bulbs, (replaced both as it saves going in again) with ease. Brilliant post, shame I snapped pretty much all my clips..

Re: Replacing the bulbs in the heater controls

I changed bulbs to my EVO today through the glovebox. Unfortunately I managed to break the little plastic clip, that holds left wire. (Clip can be seen on photo posted by PuntoR60SX)

Was it a fatal mistake? Why is clip needed, does anyone have an idea, how to replace it or what can I do with it?
I have had the car for a week now, and I have already broken it.

Re: Replacing the bulbs in the heater controls

Clip hods the wires, to avoid them being stuck in the ventilation control gears and cables. You may use an insulating tape (but cheap tapes tend to unstick from surface in warm environment) or wire strap to hold the wires in place.
