International EPIC ROADTRIP TO ITALY!! summer 2014

Cost wise Spa/Ring cashed in about £300 each.

Don't forget that if you have an accident or serious breakdown abroad in something worth less than £2,000 they will likely write your car off and pay for your travel rather than find your recovery.

Joining ADAC works out far cheaper than AA/RAC cover and covers you Europe wide (AA come in the UK to get you). €90 euros ish last year for me.

Pretty sure my car is still worth x3 of that still, so i should be ok. Nice heads up on the ADAC cover though. Something to note down and look into, as thats my biggest concern with everyones car. Just hoping things run smoothly.

Am sure the cars will dude mines been trouble free for a year and half now ;) think all the teething problems mine had have been and gone (touch wood) but will be worth the investment of cover everybody

A few essentials for driving in the countries we'll be driving through everyone needs to check with there insurance company preferably a month before to see if your insurance allows you to drive in europe because it says you need a green card for italy also a vignette is required in Switzerland but they can be got when going into there.

I could well be up for this as well, I will add some insight to "roadtrips" as last year I drove from UK to Prague, via, france, germany, italy, switzerland in a "Super Saab" on a banger rally.

Firstly thing I will say is, do it over a few more days than 2-3 we took like 4 days to do 2000 miles, its a heck of a drive and also can find some cheap accommodation like hostels along the way quite easily. but depends how much holiday people can afford to take etc

Also, I found the Eurostar expensive compared to the ferry, you can get a eurostar that takes you miles into europe though, so that is to be considered and lessens the mileage/drive.

RAC website tells you what you need to take, additionally, know that you need the hi vis jackets actually in your car and not the boot of the car for one or two countries.

Fuel will be your number one cost, then spending money, then accommodation if you do it right.

Tolls - there is a website somewhere that gives you all the cost, I will get some information from my brother, as in Mid July, he is going on a bit of a road trip around Europe.

1.Puntoboii
2.Wisey
3.dombooth
4.SamGP94
5.McAteer
6.TallTom

If you plan a route on the ViaMichelin website, it tells you the price of all the tolls and road taxes you have to pay along the route.

.

Cheers for the link :) and cheers TallTom for the info to as for tolls my dad does europe alot so I can get him to keep me updated on them aswell as your bro im hoping to span it over 7days since I normally take works holidays a week at a time but may take a few extra days so everyone whos going try and get 9days of just to be on the safe side incase of and breakdowns ect p.s nice to have you on board for this awesome trip :)

My bro is doing 14 days around Europe, he also states the site davren listed is a bit special with the journey times compared to Google.

Fuel is his 2nd biggest cost after hotels, but he is staying with his gf and some nicer hotels, he has suggested that there are villas around the lakes you can rent out so this might be an option.
