So I had my Punto mk1 in the garage for a new clutch and gear box.

When I got her back the clutch was great, 1st gear was a bit of a bit going in but it tends to be, then on the highway I noticed the RPMs were higher then usual, I used to be able to go in 5th - 120KM/h at 3000 RPM, now it hits 4000RPM, which used to only reach when I was going around 140KM/h.

Can't really be arsed to get it checked just means I can't go as fast as I used to go on the highway but is this something that can happen when one's gear box is changed?

My dad said it's probably because the gear box wasn't tuned properly.

That's strange! Not only you can't go as fast, but also fuel consumption is increased. My mechanic friend said an untuned gearbox is an option. It's a very sensitive component that usually doesn't give many problems once sealed, unless the internals weren't tuned properly before sealing.

The gearbox is from a different car, with a different engine and different gear ratios.

Your speedo might not be reading correctly, check it with a GPS (mobile phone?)

Is there a sixth gear? (There was a six-speed punto box, which would have lower ratios in the other gears).
