Has anyòne used the punto shop in Oldham? Need a new gear box fitted they seem to offer the best price.

If it's the people I think it is I'd avoid personally, you'll get an untested box out of a scrapped car which may or may not get you to the end of the road

if they say its a scrappy box and give a guarantee then i would prefer this to a lie that its reconditioned because its had a steam clean
attention is in the detail as always:)

It's called 'The Punto Shop' based in Oldham opened in 2002

To be honest I haven't heard anything bad about the place, although no personal experience. I was going to take my punto there when my water pump went but couldn't get it there as it was undrivable. A few people I work with know the guy and and my boss who deals with say he's reputable. All he does is puntos so should know what he's doing!

Old thread, I know but, may help someone else with a dead box who is looking for a replacement.

Bought a recon box for a Grande Punto 1.4 8V from these guys. Fitted today, works fine, smooth, feels tight with no apparent issues and promptly dispatched.

Only slight issue mentioned by the garage was that they'd have preferred it had not been painted as it was a pain having threads coated in paint, I'll feed that back to Punto shop but no complaints so far.

Cheers

Ben

If it's the one on Derker Street, Oldham, keep well away. I have some experience of them, and there are some real lemons for sale.

Don't touch the cars with a specially-extended bargepole. If you're desperate, and you have to buy a car, keep your wits about you. Look out for doors that don't close properly, fogged-up headlights, sodden footwells, holes in the floor, knackered engines and bad welding.

If you do that, you might be all right. Better still, walk away and try somewhere else. You'll find something better and cheaper. It's not worth the hassle.(n)
