Hi everyone,

Couldn't see an exsisting thread so I've started this one. I've just had a call from my Fiat dealer saying my car is due it's first service. I've got a Punto TA at about 9k miles

They are quoting £160 which includes and Oil and Filter change. Haven't got a clue about new car services. Is this a good price? I'd like to keep it at the dealership for resale purposes, but I'm sure I could get a better price from a local mechanic.

Any advice?

I would say its about average but I think you will find they just change the oil and filter. They justify the rest of the time as checking the car over which basically involves just looking at it.

I would maybe suggest ringing a local vat registered garage and asking them how much a first service would be with them using genuine fiat parts and oil and then calling your dealer back and getting them to price match or beat it. The local place will also tell you that you can use oem parts and still retain your warranty but I wouldn't fancy trying to get a warranty repair should the oil filter cause issues etc.

I've done that with my last new fiat and new vauxhall and got discounts both times.

for £160 you can get
Oil filter
Oil
Air Filter
Pollen Filter
Filter Change
Tyre pressures adjusted
a physical check of the components
Some places even through in a wash as well

Parts should come to about £60 / 70 max really
the 100£ would be labour and oil disposal etc etc

This is why i like doing it myself, as i like knowing its done properly :)

I have a 2012 1.4 8v.

My dealer was going to charge me £245 for the 1st year service. They reduced that to £155 because it was low mileage.

Down the road an independent Fiat place asks £118 for the 1st service.

I did it myself for £60 including the oil.(y)

And have now void your warranty.

Having only done 4,000 this year and probably the same next, if anything was to go wrong that was not attributable to me servicing it then there would be a fight on if Fiat decided to be silly.

Also what dealer would remove all the wheels and clean the mating surfaces to ensure they don't stick.
What dealer would also touch up the grease already on the brake pipes to keep them from rusting.

My thread about dealer servicing shows they ignored my request and managed to damage the tailgate as well:bang:

So dealer servicing isn't the one for me and IF I need to talk to a dealer on warranty, I'll cross that bridge if I come to it.
You pays your money and takes your chance;)
