this is a long story so bare with it, i took my gps into Glyn Hopkin Bishops Stortford wednesday for the upper steering column recall and a few warranty issues i wanted resolved before the warranty runs out as ill be servicing her myself this time round,

took the car in in the morning as always made a point of walking the guy round the car to prove its in good order, pointing out i know of a few areas but apart from that theres no damage just incase of a dispute later which i thought with a member of staff the service manager as witness there would be no issues.

went to pick it up at 4.30 and hand over the keys for the courtesy car i had been loaned for the day, again walked around the car just checking tbh i thought i wouldnt find anything but i wanted to check before i drove off, sides and the back nice and fine theyd done a rubbish job at cleaning it but nothing that bothered me, got to the front and there were 2 areas both sides of the upper grill that had been scraped on another car/surface and had scratched it all, fairly pissed at this point as the warranty issues hadnt been delt with either i got the service manager who had seen the car earlier before i left it to have a look and he goes thatll buff out

to which it didnt to be fair the job they done took 70% of the damamge from visibility but its all still there, i went back to the manager to say whats gonna be done about this, a suited man appeared the garage manager although id call him something else and said lets take a look at your car it was the very dirty one round the front wasnt it, to which i was shocked but said look dont start with that my car gets damage and he has an attitude, btw it was cleaned polished and extra shine protection a few days previous it was no more dirty than rain water drops,

anyway after 20-30minutes i got no where he had an attitude, he basically accused me of driving it in in that state and he wasnt going to do anything about it even though i had a manager whod seen it before and after and the car cleaner who had seen the damage before he put black wax on it both to which admitted i wasnt lieing, he annoyed me no end with his attitude and accusations, he went on to say i shouldnt have left the car there today as it was at my own risk and i had signed so i had no leg to stand on, to which i replied that wasnt explained, i didnt sign anything today and also why should it happen in a place i was ordered to attend,

i said if id done that to the 500 i was loaned youd be angry he said yes so i said but my car means nothing then? i explained my lack of faith and utter discust to what had happened the service they performed last time was shocking nothing had been done, my warranty issues this time round wernt resolved and considering i gave them 95000 2years ago the least i thought was possible in even the most incompitant garages was not to crash it :bang:

i shall be going to the complaints department with the names of the men involved as that is shocking isnt it! any advice or best protocol for this kind of situation?

Re: Shocking Service at Glyn Hopkin

sorry its the only place ive made threads lol its home haha

Don't worry it gives me an excuse to play with my new found powers :D

disgusting they way they have treated you your car (assuming it wasn't damaged by another customer/member of the public in the car park which does happen) but you left it in their care so you would expect it to be safe :bang:

Re: Shocking Service at Glyn Hopkin

That's poor - you must have had steam coming out of your ears.

Keep a cool head - contact fiat and the garage concerned (customer service) and register a grievance with them.

Document everything. The garage that you used must have had liability insurance, it is the law that they have to display the policy you could contact them direct and launch a claim.

You can also get it fixed yourself then launch a small claims case (done through forms at the post office) - it would be interesting to see if they are prepared to lie to the courts, i doubt it.

I would have thought as soon as they tried to fix it they have admitted liability.

Don't be fobbed off.

good luck.

yea basically he was arsey even more because about 8months ago it had been scratched by either my mum driving it or someone else scraping the car whilst she was in it, anyway i had some paint just on the surface of it to seal it and he tried to say the damage i had pointed out that was done by them was hairline fractures from that 8months ago incident, to which i said its funny how those would appear on the same day its scratched on the other side of the bumper whilst i left it here!

he was like it couldnt of happened here, i said its a tiny carpark same as every garage you have to shift a dozen cars around constantly so it was probably then!

If you can get the names all the better. The insurance certificate should be on display somewhere. Have a look around or get someone else to.
Like i said before a small claim in the courts does not cost a lot and i doubt they would even turn up.

Got the names and formal positions they hold,

sent off a lengthy email to fiats team threw the website and also the email address i was given by glyn hopkins head office and ive told my uncle whose in the business and well connected  i didnt want to go asking for help but needs must, so heads should roll!

fiat got back to me and said theyd investigate,

glyn hopkin got back to me and the manager has basically either well connected or a fabolous lier and has told head office that the scratches were already there, when i have a colleague of his who agreed with me that it wasnt what now????

phone trading standards... they will tell you what to do... they are wicked, and you usually get some kind of response from the people involved (in this case glyn h.) when you tell them your holding them under some sort of legal act! .... try it, trading standards are VERY useful, and its free advice..

yeah i might give them ago cant hurt im just so annoyed that there lieing!!

fiat uk got back to me and just said we spoke to glyn hopkin and it appears the marks were already there, as if im retarded if i knew they were already there and had no witness i wouldnt bother, i mean wtf is that waste of time!

This is a reply to james
James ive had an even worse expierience then yourself with glyn hopkins
Get this
I got a new fiat scudo in september 2005 , in december 2005 , the pistons in the engine went and i had to have a new engine fitted , this was done by glyn hopkins at east ham
They said 2-3 weeks , i phoned after 3 weeks and they said the engine was lost in a Warehouse in ipswich and i eventually got the van after 6 weeks ,
After a couple of days i heard a knocking noise so i took it back , again i got the van and straight away the mechanic sorted the problem by taking a spanner out of the engine bay which he had left there
Again i collected the van , after a few days as i pulled away from a set of traffic lights , BANG the engine had fallen onto the front axle , they said the engine mount had broken
So again after a couple of weeks i collected the van and drove home . In the morning i was driving to work at 40 mph when i felt something go under the front wheel , when i looked it was the inner wheel arch had come away and was stuck under the front wheel , back i went
Then i did not need to use the van for work for about 2 and half years so it was only used at weekends therefore it has only clocked 39000 miles , 36000 since the new engine was fitted
On may 27th of this year , as i was driving home i heard and felt something drop from the engine bay onto the floor and almost at the same time i felt a clump and a grinding noise , on inspection the bolts from the engine mount to the engine block were/is hanging halfway out and one , out of the 4 bolts was/is missing , ( that is what i felt drop from the bay ) , i also noticed that the engine was dropping to one side
This should not happen , even if i took the van rallying this would not happen , the bolts are cross threaded , i can tell you that without looking , its the only explanation
I phoned glyn hopkin , and was put through to this one and that one , given numerous phone nos , the usual runaround , they dont seem to want to know , complaints is a swear word to them
Any way i managed to get an email to them explaining everything , in more detail than here , with photos for evidence
Ther reply , We have spoken to our service manager who is an expert in his field and he can see washer marks in the photos where the bolt is missing and the others which are hanging out , so therefore the bolts were fitted tightly ,
OF course they are fitted tightly because the mechanic had no choice but to tighten them up as much as he could because he had already crossthreaded them ,
I replied to there email but as yet , no reply
I dont know whether to take it further , its the same old story , little man vs big company , what chance have we got ,

I may have been a bit too quick posting this ,
I had a phone call today 10 may 2011 from glyn hopkin , someone is going to come over and have a look at the van next week ,
Will keep you all updated with what they say

Some garages think were all stupid i've had experence in the past when cowboys have made a dog's ******** out of the car so in the end got fed off went to college learned mechanics and now i do all my own work and aleast i know i've done a good propar job.
