Hi all, I've just recently took my car into have warranty work done on the drivers side door lock (wasn't opening from the inside). It's been done perfectly but the company in question rang me up after having delivered my car back to work for me, leaving a message informing me that the warranty is not in my name.

How is this so, if I bought the car 2nd hand, surely it would be in my name, and if not, why does it need to be?

So the company has further rang me up and insisted that I pay £27.20 for the warranty to be transfered into my name for the 3rd year (it's an 07 plate) or I'll have to pay for the door lock.

So I told them that I'll go to the company who sold me the car and ask them, but they're no longer a Fiat garage they're Citroen and Kia, and 'apparently' only Fiat garages can transfer the warranty.

What should I do?!

Cheers

Thats correct. I had to transfer mine over. The original onwer will be on the 3r year policy. If you bought your car at a fiat dealership they should have paid to have your name on it. Trying to get another garage to pay this might be a struggle, buts its cheaper than paying for your door lock. Its in the warranty conditions that you name has to be on the policy why i dont know, but that the way it is.

So is it the dealer who sold me the car who should pay?

Well yes, if they sold the car with warranty then yes they should pay. As at the moment you have no warranty unless its transferred. Car should be as you bought it. If they sold it without warranty then no, but all garages are different and you may have a fight on your hands.
