SGM fiat trying to rip me off- advice please

Just to let you know, I went in and bypassed the muppets to speak straight to the manager. I said I had come for the refund of my deposit and it was returned without question.

The sad thing is that they were prepared to let me walk away from a car that they had already taken a deposit on (so they have already made £500 on it) and thats been sitting in the showroom since february all for the sake of £400.

SO, the big question now is, having exhausted all the dealers near to home and work, where DO I get my Fiat 500 from?

My advice is to buy one from your nearest, they are pretty much all the same really. Some have good sales staff, some good technicians, some good parts dept and some even have decent managers.... but non have all of them!
At least SGM are only Fiat, unlike lots of the big chains, whereas one minute a tech will be fixing say a Renault, then your Fiat. I just hope my experience of actually getting my 500 from them is better than the waiting experience!!!

I have just discovered the same car advertised on Auto Trader at what turns out to be SGM's sister branch: Middleton Fiat in Bognor Regis. I know this because I rang to check. Middleton Fiat are advertising the car at £11700 instead of the £11975 SGM tried to flog it to me at!:mad::mad:

I cant say i'm a fan of SGM .. had a bad experience with their parts department once when trying to buy some fiat parts for my lancia ..one particular person in the parts department is a complete bottom hole asking why I wanted to waste my money buying parts for a piece of crap!!
anyway I noticed last weekend they had gone? ( show room and forecourt empty) anyone know where to?

the other posts in this thread are HISTORY...

sounds like the dealership might be also..!! ;)

SGM was sold to Snows.

Snows have opened a new FCA mutlibrand Fiat, Abarth, Jeep and Alfa Romeo dealership in Southampton.

The SGM site will become a Snow's sister site for Sales, Servicing and Parts. I gather their plans include opening a tyre sales outlet as well.

My understanding is that SGM, as a small concern, did not want to be squeezed and try to compete with Snows in Soton and Perrys in Portmouth so decide to focus on their sister company Middleton Garage in Bonga Regis.

Well regarding the person you mention if it is the person I'm thinking of I've known and done business with him for well over 30 years and actually he is a great guy when you get to know him.

I get the same jibes from him regarding our older Fiats (Barchetta / 130TC) and there is actually no malice etc. intended. He appreciates classic Fiat enthusiasts and enters a tease mode.

However I would say/agree that if you did not both know each other then his "approach" was a little dangerous from a customer perspective.

it's such a shame...always the biggest problem buying a new Fiat - the dealerships. ive used 3 since i had my seicento from new:

Cheltenham - gave wrong info, supplied wrong spare key after sale and took several occasions to even acknowledge demonstrable faults.now closed, surprise surprise.

Worcester - massively overpriced servicing on my ex's panda, rude ignorant staff.

Gloucester for a test drive in panda 100hp - fine at first, but turned extremely unpleasant after we returned saying we had decided against it. Reasons we gave he said we were wrong and just laughed at us. Driving license literally thrown across the desk at us and he walked off without another word.

all of them - truly appaling customer service treatment.

i thought fiat were supposed to be sorting this kind of thing out, they've admitted to knowing the dealer service is the weak link. how hard is it to resolve??!!

i'll probably still be buying the 500 abarth, but even with them only being sold through supposedly the best dealerships its not an experience pre or post sale that im looking forward to, as im sure do others feel who have experience of the company. Glad i wont have to use any of the 3 aforementioned one at least, dont they realise they alienate customers permanently with one bad experience? its pretty basic stuff.

koksy, demand your deposit back off the scum and go elsewhere, their loss.

This salesman ought to deal with me! I have a cure for mouths like his!

Who do these people think they are. If you choose to change your mind that's entirely your prerogative. Any sales person worth employing takes this in their stride with a polite response as it's by far is the best way to get people to come back with confidence another time. If I am ever passing these people I will most definitely call in and waste their time just for the hell of it!

I do hope middleton fiat go bump aswell as the little scroat Steve Burrows that used to own SGM made quite a few of his employees redundant back in October 2007 including many salesmen, admin staff and the parts manager !
