When Buying my breakdown cover with the AA. I was informed of a service they where offering that I thought you guys might like to know about.

AA breakdown Repair Cover - £65-£85pa
http://www.theaa.com/breakdownrepaircover/index.html

It's like a new warranty on your car, Mines a Punto 99 1.2SX and it's cost me £65 a year (on top of AA breakdown, so in total about £100) it covers pretty much anything that can cause a breakdown including clutch's, gearboxes, head gaskets, radiators, cam belts etc.

I feel it's the best thing i've ever bought for my car as it's so far paid for it-self and saved me about £60 already.

I got in my car one morning and found that i could not put my car in gear, i knew that this was a hydraulic clutch issue and that topping up the cylinder and bleeding the valve would have solve it, but at the time I couldn't be bothered to sort it myself(monday morning, 7.30 am, shirt & tie etc). I called the AA and within and hour he had diagnosed a leak in the slave cylinder of the clutch system. He bleed and topped up the system as a temporary fix (so I could carry on as normal) and gave me a report explaining the problem, he then directed me to my nearest approved nationwide garage. I called them, booked it in that morning and left my car for repair, once done I paid the £25 excess and drove home. the garage dealt with all the papaerwork, liased with the AA on my behalf and sorted the cost required for cover, £120 inc labour.

All you need to do to use the service is report the fault as a breakdown, get the fault report and turn up at a nationwide garage. Brilliant

Not necessary to use Nationwide Garages, we are doing a car with this warranty at the moment and we are a Fiat dealer.

Take it it's not like a normal warrenty where any item covered is repaired irrespective of whether it happened as a breakdown or not. Any one clarify?

What breakdowns does cover apply to?

  • 1. In order for Your AA Breakdown Repair Cover to apply, the nominated vehicle must:
  • break down as a result of Mechanical or Electrical Failure, and
  • as a result, be prevented from continuing its journey safely, and
  • have been attended by the AA under Your AA Membership, and
  • need the repair or replacement of insured part(s) to enable the journey to be resumed or, if applicable, commenced.

its quite good value, especially as they sort all the hassle of arranging the repair with the local garage etc - often the hardest part with these warranties is actually claiming the money/paperwork.

good peace of mind as well, especially for cars in the 5-10 year age range when parts can be expected to start failing irrespective of how carefully you drive or how well you service and maintain the car.

ive got it with my 6yr old seicento, coupled with the aa's breakdown assistance. if you really want the 'full monty' then for a little more they will even sort out a hire car for you, driven to your home address within an hour!

not mega cheapo these options - but with an ageing car that i love driving and dont particularly want to be forced to get rid of yet owing to worries over reliability and parts failure....its a good option :)

I believe the AA breakdown repair cover only covers the first £500 of each breakdown repair. Less the £25 excess, so £475.

There's also a maximum of 3 or 5 (can't remember which) claims per year and the nominated car must have been serviced in accordance with the manufacturer's schedule by a VAT registered garage (not neccessarily a dealer).

I have both UK breakdown repair cover and European parts and labour cover for my car. The Ts & Cs are much the same but no excess to pay for the European version.

Got this breakdown repair with the AA no complaints there had the head gasket repaired on it , just wouldnt use nationwide again !!
