500 (Classic) Rosie the pink 1967 500F

Introduction

So at someone's suggestion I'll start a little blog(ette) on my journey with Rosie. Its not a blow by blow restoration (as she doesn't need it) but more my infrequent musings as I re-learn my auto skills!
I was going to write this in the first person as Rosie but frankly that takes too much thinking for an old brain!

So the adventure begins on the 7th December, whilst having a glass of wine or two, and on a classic car auction site!
Not recommended you may say, but with some egging on from the wife (surprisingly) I started to bid. She of course had also had a couple of glasses.

I'd wanted a classic car for some time, somewhat bored with (early) retirement. Having had deux chevaux in the past I wanted something smaller that would fit in the garage. a rented garage away from the house would have been a disincentive for lazy me to use/fettle/play with Rosie...
My shortlist was classic Mini, Fiat 500, 2CV, Renault 4 & possibly Vespa/Lambretta/ Piaggio Ape!
as a former car designer I've always been attracted to classic vehicles as an antidote to the newer stuff I was at the time working on! (hence the 2CVs to the derision of other staff)

Back to the plot.. So I won the auction (Oh s*it) luckily at not a stupid price for a car that looked in pretty good shape (It was 200 miles away so it was a bit of a punt!!)
Anyway, after considering driving it up to Northumberland (unwise for an unknown vehicle and with limited fixing skills) she was trailered up on the 12th December. (By a Porsche lol)
The driver couldn't load it at the other end and didn't want to unload, so with some reservations I rolled/reversed it off the trailer and into the garage...

to be continued!

Rosie's Background

Although I have no history of Rosie's Italian heritage sadly, I did come across some previous for sale pics when she sported a rather striking Harlequin paint job (anyone remember the Golf?). I guess some of you may have known her in this livery (I think she lived in Wiltshire at the time
)

It does rather explain the odd colours I'm finding underneath the pink re-spray that the last owner did!
So the last owner runs a wedding car business and Rosie was part of their stable of 3 Fiat 500s.

As well as weddings and promotions she appeared in channel 4's "Married at first sight" !

Who knows, she may be used commercially in the future, but the plan at the moment is just to do Classic Car shows in the NE, NW and N Yorkshire and running about locally.

When the weather is better she will also be going weekly to Millie's American Diner in Bedlington, Northumberland, where fellow car enthusiasts meet for "cars n coffee" where there is everything from old Jags and Beetles to Muscle cars and err a few 'boy racers'!

To follow will be more musings about my fiddling with Rosie :)
