That's convinced me, I'll order my 360 HD DVD as soon as funds become available again.
Does it make exsisting dvds any better, like upscaling to 720p or anything ?

Yes I was reading that somewhere about the pc compatibility, that's a major plus.

I couldn't believe how much some of the HD DVD's are actually selling for though, especially as I have a massive collection of dvds anyway and a lot of those released are just hd versions of what I have already.
I mean £25 for something like The Piano, unless you have a fixation for Holly Hunters bare arse then that's a waste of money.

Well OK, bad example

yeah but its early so prices will be sky high.once people start buying new releases they dont have prices will drop.
we had the same with tape to cd,vhs to dvd.
its a case of if you want it in HD you gotta pay ;)
im now starting to look to HD tv's as there getting into my poor mans budget of sub £500 for a decent screen size whereas early adopters were well over £1k+

I'm not convinced by his findings. What works for him and his setup might not work on mine/ours. Did he tweak at all? I almost ordered the E1 yesterday but something kept telling me to hang on for the PS3. I reckon there will be a lot of format swapping going on around March/April when it hits the shops. This sitting on the fence is annoying but I suppose it gives us time to save up for it all.

did you read the write up?
personally it looks a fairly honest one man review.
he listed what hardware he was using and monitor settings were on default.
he also states a few reasons he prefers HD dvd.
its still early days and TBH i doubt theres much in it for day to day watching.

Yes, I read it but my opinion stands. Unless you customize the screen settings how can you determine one standard as being better than another and that includes SD. It is an honest review of what he has acieved, not necessarily what anybody else will with their setup.

exactly and with things like these its down to one (or a group) persons observations/views so unless you can see them running side by side its hard to see ofr sure.
what we really want is an affordable dual format player.they have been developed but as for affordable...............................

blue ray is dead, how do i know you may ask ??? cause its sonys idea. im willing to bet cash that in a years time hd dvd will be king and blue ray will be will be dwindling and only really used by ps3 owners

Rather like when they released mini discs and everyone elso turned to MP3. i bought one of the first minidisc headunits out at the time think it was gonna be great! then i could never get any music for it,.,., SONY bastards!

the real winner will be decided by what formay the big pc manufacturers go with, and i'l be willing to lay some money on HD-DVD, as the terms HD and DVD are now recognised by even most technophobes, and training the 16 year old sales guy to sell it will be easy as they just say it, if people have to ask what "this blue ray thing" is all about and get someone to explain it ...

cmon sony already lost out on those stupid disks you can only play in a PSP ...you would have thought they would have learned their lesson by now.
