Re: Gran Turismo 5

erm, reminds me alot of GT4. I guess it's early days but from my opinion, in a rush or rather an effort to get as many cars in the game as possible. Alot of elements seem to be just making par. Some cars look a little under done, while others are striking. Some of the surroundings look so fake (trees and stuff) whilst the shadows and buildings on some tracks are purely amazing. I dunno what it is but it's not quite what i expected, but alas it's here finally

it was either going to be a masterpiece or flawed given its time in development

Re: Gran Turismo 5

I thought it would be like GRID, but a little more involved and bigger. After all is said and done, i like (at the moment) the driving experience, damage and so on of GRID, whilst short and a bit repetitive, its a more complete experience.

Re: Gran Turismo 5

I think its bipolar as a game, some bits look amazing and play great, but then theres stuff that looks like it has literally been recycled from GT4 with no work whatsoever, and the empty wooden thud you make when you crash into something is the least convincing effect in a racing game ever..

Re: Gran Turismo 5

The Prius is really impressive, soulless and bland to drive but the way they've modelled the intricracies of the hybrid system is very good indeed, maybe thats where they spent the time. Although why you'd spend all that time and effort on it is beyond me...

Re: Gran Turismo 5

i quite like it.

Gameplay seems a little short, with far too few events to enter, though as to whether more unlock as you go on i don't know yet but somewhat doubt it.

As said cars vary between cardboard models to the exquisitely detailed proffessional models.

Loading times are far, far too long for my liking. even with it installed, though part of this is due to connecting to the internet. so can be speeded up by disconnecting, though the patch may sort this out?

The driving is excellent. the different cars feel different, and more importantly feel realistic. take most FWD cars and Understeer will appear, take a powerfull RWD car and you will spin out if you're not careful. Different cars also behave differently. for example cars of the similar power and weight behave differently. Also it looks good on the replays when your on 2 or 3 wheels when cornering/braking.

I like the new tuning centre, rather than having to go to the manufacturer as in previous games which was a bit of a waste of time when it was all the same. The GT auto centre is also pretty good, respraying cars to any colour you own, so if you win a nice car in a disgusting colour you can respray it. Aerodynamic parts can be added, spoilers, wings and diffusers etc. Also you can rebuild the engines which loses power over time.

The addition of wipers to premium models only, means that rain races are very realistic with spray blocking almost everything, you can flash your lights at any time, dip your lights on night races, also Horns are on all cars for no apparent reason, but you can change horns with ones you own if you so wish. It's just a shame there's so few premium cars in relation to simple ones.
