well hard to believe but im in the market for a PS3
dont wory my phoney hatred hasnt faded ;)
not really for me
looking at ther market i see sony have
removed all backwards compality of any use
removed 2 usb ports
removed some(all?) memory readers
removed ethernet ports
removed wifi on some models

well done sony

however im looking to buy a new PS3 anyway,so no 2nd hand 60gb with decent spec
it would be the 80gb unless theres a good reason not to?
seems the bundles are fairly generic across stores

Dont think you can buy a Wi fi free ones in this country unless its an iffy import...same with ethernet ports. All the memory card readers are gone. Deals seem to be about 290 to 300 quid with either lots of poor games or 2 good ones. Remember to budget for an HDMI/Headset as well as the console (good one sony). Machines themselves are decent enough, although may be worth thinking about warrantying it as with all modern consoles they are a bit too clever for their own good.

going on CRT so no biggie on HDMI,yes it dont actually have a fancy telly
amazon doing a decent deal with an HDMI though
someone kinda local is selling a 160gb one but tbh im loathed to suggest it as its not really my money and no warrenty isnt a risk i would put forward
sinstar is the 1st game to buy

They thought about an Xbox and Lips (which allows you to use any none copy protected music) might be a better and much cheaper option. Many places (including ourselves) were giving Lips away free with the machine pretty recently. If they just want a karioke machine that can play games would make more sense as I doubt they'll be using blu-rays on the CRT. If it has to be a PS3 i'd go for new unless there is fully warranted preowned available some places do year warranties on 2nd hand gear but you'll pay more for the machine if you go there.

The Wifi is still in-built and always will be.
Man some people on here are too talkative for their own good and need to get their facts right before spreading rumors. Not aimed at DannyGP

Well that would be either me or custard then...if you are referring to me eluding to PS3s not being mechanically bullet proof then when you've spent time sorting out PS3, 360, DS and Wii warranty claims then you can tell me i'm spreading rumours.

As for the wifi thing..thanks to sony policy of different machines in different countries there was a possibility that they'd done a poverty-spec one for somewhere else that I was not aware of and tbh I couldn't be bothered to look.

yay a fanboy :slayer:

as for lips, they are getting that for the superior 360 anyway ;)
ah when i think back to all that launch hype of the poverty spec 360 making do with software emulation for backwards compatibility
how the mighty PS3 was so great giving you access to that massive Ps2 back catalogue
all that connectability and card readers......................

my 1st stop was here
http://uk.playstation.com/ps3/hardware/
all i wanted it to tell me was what models are available with what level of poverty spec

this is the problem
so many varying specs when you google its tricky to see whats available and where

in this global economy, kinda makes this quite a sweeping statement ;)

The Wifi is still in-built and always will be.

so looking at my post its 100% factually correct with no rumours involved?

Currently available specs in UK (and possibly world wide as sony have streamlined the range available an awful lot but I'll let the member of the PS3 forum confirm that) are the 80gb and 160gb...both have Dualshock 3 controllers, a 1 metre pad recharge wire, no backward compatibility with PS2, built in Wi Fi, a non HD AV cable with scart adaptor and power cord. Only difference is the hard drive.

They removed WiFi on no models available in the UK so this should not in anyway affect you - Debunked
Every Ps3 has 1 ethernet port and always will have 1 ethernet port. It was the silver prototype that had 3 ethernet ports and 2 High definition multimedia interface ports but thats here nor there - Debunked

I just don't want anyone to read your message thinking that the Ps3 has lost it when it clearly hasn't thats all. And after all this Is a UK based forum, we should be only talking about the UK models am I right no?
I can't even begin to explain the more reasons you should be buying a ps3 over xbox 360. But this thread isn't about that..
Just get the 80GB model and install your own hard drive like I did.
80gb is nothing, 160gb will also go very quickly. 500GB is where it's at yeh boy! Shame I installed mine before 500gb Sata 2.5" came out yeh? lol
But anyway, Trey for life!

lol i never said UK model,i specifically said their(well ther actually) market
seems you have those fanboy glasses on tight
feel free to try and nitpick my post over facts i garnered trying to find basic info sony felt the need not to make easily accesible on their site (y)

I apologise for seeming so blunt, then. Sorry
Wikipedia has a great source of information on the ps3 if you are wanting facts and figures. I had both consoles, sold the Xbox as it was honestly just collecting dust. But again, thats my opinion
