I said ps2 and ps3 games not consoles...
Who's to say Sony aren't trying their best to get playstation 3 sales? Which they infact are.
It's to do with the prices of the consoles that they are selling so cheap
Obviously not everyone is going to buy a playstatation 3, have you seen the price? I bought it for the many luxuries that are not included with "other games consoles".
I know many friends, a lot of whom declair their hatred for the console due to it's extorinate price. Looking at the other thread about the Xbox360 console being £104 and Ps3 being around £300. There is one hell of a difference.

and to sell games you need to shift the console
to shift the console you give it appealing features for your market
a great appealing feature for mum & dad(you know the ones paying for your PS3) is little timmeh! can still play all those PS2 games they spurted a ton of cash on
if little timmeh! doesnt play those PS2 games much it doesnt matter as they have already been tied into the format
were you too young to remember Sony making an song and dance about having hardware BC over the 360's software solution?

The backwards compatibility doesnt help them financially though, they dont want you to buy the new console and play old games because it loses them money as the PS3 is (reportedly) sold at a loss. If you then just play all your old PS2 games on it you arent going to be inclined to buy the new games (where the profit is).
The other problem is the fanboy types, who moan that there isnt emulation, and moan when there is but isnt good enough - theres loads of people like that with the xbox.
Sony are always mucking around with the hardware - remember the early PS2's. The jap ones had PCMCIA and firewire, the early european ones had firewire too.

That's true, however if you've spent around £300 on PS2 games, and then they're all rendered obsolete if you buy the next console, you're not going to buy the console until there's a price reduction.

yup i agree with people complaining about compatibility
however as ive said i just dont get why sony dont offer some form of BC across the board
list it as a feature,put a * next to it and in the small print put for certain games or whatever
still a selling point,i was especially surprised at sony removing it when sales were slow due mainly to the price
BC is a perfect selling point/leverage point for kids trying to get a console bought for them
given the PS3's specs it shouldnt be a hardware limitation and can only be down to optimisation surely?
i just never understood them removing it when it was already implemented in software

How am I a fanboy? I take the other consoles positives and negatives into perspective.
I can just clearly justify the reasons for one being better than the other in my opinion.
I have had both consoles for christs sake. Still got fifa on my windowsill for the xbox lol.

TBF can't we all just get a long and view the Wii with the pure disdain and hatred it deserves? And it doesn't even play DVDs!
Derivative games? Well if they banned games with "Party" "Island" "Shop" "My" "Fit/Fitness" And "Mario" in the title thats 75% of its creatively bankrupt back catalogue gone.

I had a Wii and sold it, im a console shuffle arse really. Must admit the build quality on the PS3 is excellent compared to the xbox360.
I didnt like the childish slant on the Wii and was sick of it telling me to take a break. Im too lazy to be stood up playing games, I like to mong on the sofa with a joypad.
TBH I only ever play Virtua Tennis and Guitar Hero on my 360, as well as the odd bash on Project Gotham. Ive recently gone back in time and bought an Amiga 1200, upgraded it a bit and stuff like Arkanoid, chaos engine and Cannon fodder off the hard drive.
