![]() | UMD dead? looks like sony are finally (sort of) admitting its a dead format ![]() Sony confirms UMD-less 'Patapon 2' 16 April 2009 17:07 by Andre "DVDBack23" Yoskowitz Confirming earlier reports that surfaced this week, Sony America has announced that the new PSP game Patapon 2 will be UMD-less and will be exclusively sold as a digital download. Senior director of corporate communications Patrick Seybold added that the release is a "one time test case as we continue to explore consumer preference for digital content." Seybold was also quick to note that the company remains committed to UMD, the proprietary disc format. "We remain focused on providing superior games and entertainment experiences in both the UMD and digital formats and are working closely with our partners to deliver the best PSP line up in our history."

![]() | Re: UMD dead? It was dead from the start, No appeal, If you had a movie on dvd you wanted to watch on your psp you'd have to buy it again, which is stupid, Hoping with the next psp they have microcards for the games ![]()

![]() | Re: UMD dead? i can understand using it for games, but trying to get people to buy films on it doesn't quite work when it's no use on anything else, couldn't even connect a psp to a telly, though i think the new one you could. the size of a psp mind wouldn't of needed much to convert to CD/DVD it's only slightly smaller than a CD! would of been much better, could of been a portable PS2 perhaps. at least it has a card slot, i have used mine to watch films/music on long coach journeys to europe, along with multiplayer games with the wifi. can't remember the last time i've played a game on it, but i use it for music a lot, as at the time i was choosing between a more expensive ipod or a psp. nintendo DS's are better though but i'm not sure if they do the films/music like a psp.
