The GP got it's annual wash today and yes it looks good but I've uncovered more work that has to be done :rolleyes2: Which means I have a couple of questions for you lot

1) There are stone chips in the paintwork that have to be dealt with so what is the best way of repairing them?

2) Thanks to Aberdeenshire councils pathetic way of fixing the roads I have bits of tar stuck to the paint work. How do I remove this without causing more damage?

Forgot I took pictures (it's been a long day)

A comparison picture taken with the crappy camera phone

The rear wipe blade came off when I was washing the back window so I popped down to the folks to see how they're meant to be fixed on and at the same time borrowed their camera. David Bailey has nothing to fear from me

chip stick if the paint is fresh not perfect but unless you spray the entire panel with the chips on its never going to be.

tar wise. t-cut, petrol anything with thinners in tbh but be carefull if you rub too hard for too long the paint will go too. but its not THAT dangerous lol.

That's a fair difference during the wash! Looks good after you've finished :)

Tar wise, Carlisle council have been doing the same. I use 250ml bottle of Autobrite Targo, which seems to be rebranded as tar glue remover and only comes in 1l or 5l. It sprays on after the wash, dissolves the tar then wipe off. Another product that is highly recommended on DW is autosmart tardis, it's used in the same way as the targo. However like me, you won't want be buying a 5l bottle, here is a 250ml bottle, ooh dear I think a bit of ebaying later could be in order

I'll try find some pictures of tardis working later and post them up

Get some Tar remover, then that way you know is 100% safe for the paintwork.

Seeing the car get an annual wash, i'd just leave the stone chip :) as there is nothing you can do to stop it from happening. Just have it sprayed when is really really bad.

Thanks for those recommendations Rich, spray on wipe off is about my level of effort.

Just remember though that any protection that could be there will likely be removed. A DW member has not long posted this regarding tardis working

 this is my approach, hence no front images in my thread. Quick fix soon to follow tho :yes4:

Oh ffs, all that effort yesterday and tonight a flyer is shoved through the letterbox advertising a mini valet (wash exterior, hoover interior) for £10. It took me an hour yesterday just to wash the GP - I'd have gladly paid the tenner

 Eastern Europeans with BrilloPads, I don't think so............

From the pics, the GP looks rather decent - like the style of the later ones before the Evo came in :)

I've got a tonne of stone chips and tar on the Stilo as well. Was going to get a front end respray, but if I were doing that, the whole car probably needs it done :/ I hear your pain on the whole tar removal as well, plenty of that on mine too. That and brake dust are my main annoyances when washing the car, though there's always going to be plenty of products to sort them that'll fill my increasingly cramped cupboard space

oh forgot to reply best way ive removed tar is wd40. completely harmless to paint and eats tar.... thats what it does for a living i suppose.

when done wipe clean and wash with your normal car shampoo as it eats oil... win win

The lass at work mentioned this, neither of us have tried it. Might have to give it a go some time.
