Stuart, perhaps you can help

My neighbour needs to remove the battery from his Meriva to get to his clutch but every time he disconnects it the power sounder alarm goes off. He's tried several things including trying disconnecting the battery within 10 seconds of switching off the ignition and nothing is working. Got any tips/tricks?

Cheers

Key in and turn to position 2 (lights on dash)

Disconnect battery

Open beer and marvel at a job well done.

Thanks for this and passed on the messages but apparently he's already tried that. He thinks there's an error with the alarm itself.

2 options, jump leads onto battery terminals, move battery and reconnect.

Snip the wire to the alarm siren (or unplug it if it can be found), can easily use crimp on connectors to reconnect it if needs must.

Where is the alarm getting it's power from to sound? either has to have its own battery or is using what's left in capacitors, in which case disconnecting then turning everything on will empty them in under 2 seconds.

The power sounder is designed to do this, it has an internal backup battery, so if the wires are cut, or any 'unauthorised ' loss of power, it will sound.

DO NOT tell him to cut the wire or the alarm will keep sounding.

the procedure is:

1) ign to position 2
2) remove battey
3) remove key

Key must be left in while the battery is removed

If his only option is cutting the wire, he must remove the front passenger wheel and remove arch liner and the sounder is up in there. (Thats where it was on the Vectra but get him to google the location of the power sounder on the meriva.)

when he sees it, he needs a bucket of water. Unplug power sounder and drop straight into water.

This is a tried and tested method on Vectra B's, the Meriva may differ slightly.

Just had it confirmed that its ed Zachary the same as a vectra B, so go as above

Oh, did you get the txt by the way? hope the Nigerian number didn't confuse you too much lmao

Ok, my solution is fine the sounder and smash **** out of it with a hammer.

Useless anyway, nobody pays attention to them.

Weight saving ftw.

Slight problem in that it's a Zafira not a Meriva (I'd like to say that's because I don't know Vauxhall's but it was a brain fart) so don't know if this will work. Will pass it on tonight though

And yes, got your texts thanks. The only confusing thing about them was they came from Nigeria and weren't asking to use my bank account to hide $60,000,000

Zafira will be the same
:)

And the promise of $60,000,000 was going to follow up... i need you bank account details by the weekend though ;)

Of course, no problem at all. Account number is 05318008

That works much better on a calculator lol

aftermarket alarm on standard one

Standard.

Not sure what the situation is tonight. I suspect nowt as he's got a runaround to keep him going and the car is booked in to a garage to deal with the clutch anyway. I certainly haven't heard any annoying beeping which is good

Thanks for all the help though folks
