I had a wee bit of an incident yesterday involving a clio who thought the designated passing places on a narrow country road were unnecessary. Unfortunately he was wrong as demonstrated by the fact he clipped my wing mirror. The glass fell out but luckily didn't break and I was able to push it back in with no problem. My question is now the glass has fallen out just how secure is it? The wire is still intact although I haven't played with the electrics yet to see if they're still working. Just how robust are fiat wing mirrors?

Answer a is more robust than a clios as his broke. He picked up the pieces and sped off pretty damn quick - guess he was worried I'd want his insurance details

Did you happen to get his reg? Technically, that would probably fall into the category of failing to stop at the scene of an accident?

IIRC there are little 'pegs' on the back of the glass which clip into the actual mirror unit. Assuming these click in it *should* probably be ok. Last time I had this issue with the mirror glass, adjusting the position of the mirror would pop it back out if it wasnt secure. Try that next time your parked up and if you get normal rotation then it's more than likely ok.

dunno if you mean the glass on its own fell out and not the the glass with the plastic surround if it was JUST the glas i would be tempted to use a bit of double sided tape on it for safety :)

Nope, didn't get the reg plate as it was one of those happened so fast moments. I didn't notice any peg-type things but the mirror did slot back into place with ease

Yes just the glass. Will pick up some double-sided tape this weekend and get it secure, ta for the suggestion.

Yay, that means a visit to the local "this shop has everything" :D I've not had a mooch around there in ages

ive got new drivers glass and rear plasic clip lying around for a GP. electric and heated so if you need one give me a shout and we could sort out a affordable price :)

I'll bear that in mind thanks. however things are looking good as the car has been bumped over the pot-hole-ridden Aberdeenshire roads today without the glass falling out so I'm hoping that'll be that. I'll still look into Abyss's suggestion of double-sided sticky tape but only after I've checked to see if the glass pops out easily by hand. If it's difficult to shift I'll take a chance and yes you all have permission to laugh if I get it wrong and report a few months down the line that the mirror needs replacing
