Has anyone attempted this? Asking as I might have a homer on in the next couple of weeks depending whether my brothers other half keeps or sells or crushes the car. I know that it would be idea to have a pit or a ramp but, unfortunately only have axle stands and a jack so I will have to remove the gearbox kerbside (Not looking forward to that).

Also, anyone got any tips on how to lock the engine so I can remove the flywheel as obviously I cant just park it in gear.

And if anyone is up to help (Kennoway, fife), you're more than welcome. I have a teaboy (My brother) to keep my mug topped up with tea as he doesn't like getting his hands dirty.

Erm, Aslong as the person gets the parts then I'll be happy with a hand. Not had a punto box out before, only a Foden 6x4 artic (16 speed ZF box) and a foden 6x4 rigid (Eaton 16 speed box)

Ive lots of images of my 1108cc Fire Engine all stripped down when i rebuilt mine if thats any help for you?,it will give you an indication of whats what even though yours is an mpi Fire, its no big job if you have tools my friend?,between you and Andi you should have it done in a day, don't rush it!,do it right first time round,

Cheers Scuderia

IIRC .. the only tools you will need ( going of when i did mine is ..

19mm socket to drop the Hubs down to get the drive shats out the Box
18 mm socket to loosen the bolts atound the Bellhouseing ..
15mm to undo the flywheel
13 mm Socket to undo the selector bit what bolts on the back of the bell houseing , and rear gear box mount ..
10 mm spanner to undo the Adjuster

Well i think that was the sizes on my cinq , the punto should be similar
a abit of brute strenght to get the box out

Thanks don, might be handy but I think majority of engines look similar when looking at the flywheel.

Jakinson, What drive did you use for those sockets? 1/2 or 3/8?

That sounds about right to me.
I had to change my Panda's Box when the Syncro on 3rd went.

Here you go,think this is where your heading too....although this block is little more stripped than yours will be, but it gives you a good view of where your heading, if you get my drift,

Don't mess about with the flywheel bolts when refitting them..... make sure you torque them!,44Nm-32lbf/ft,

Cheers Don

Ahh right. Looks like I'll be using my big screw driver and hammer to remove the old seal. Looks just like a rear gearbox seal or a differential seal.

yeh, a sod to remove. and EASILY damaged when going back in. so lube it up and take it easy.

i think i actually used some sort of smoothed can to push it back in evenly.

Toffee hammer with gentle taps should do.

Andi, you still good for tomorrow?

Managed to get it done anyway. Charged the person £80 for doing the job as she bought the parts, I think thats fair. The two biggest problems were the nut on the stud next to the starter and lifting the box back in but got there in the end. Never will I do that again for less than £100 though...
