So as you may have seen with some of Simon's posts earlier in the week he took delivery of a Midnight Blue Fiat Punto. Trouble being it wasn't for himself. Yep. I'm back (again) :D

I was at work in Dundee on Sunday and Simon was visiting for a cuppa and catch up. Whilst looking at ebay, we spied a fairly clean MK1 with a genuine 38k on the clock. It'd been spied earlier on in the year by members of the Mk1 enthusiasts group on facebook. Back in January it was going for about £700. Now it was down to £395....a quick phone call and a cheeky offer later and it was mine. Yay - I'd bought another car blind...only problem being it was in Warrington.

Managed to luck out (again) and got an offer of £200 to bung the car on a loader bound for Dundee. Turns out the delivery driver was from Aberdeen - he'd been down the road doing a delivery and would have been heading home empty. I got my car brought up the road and he covered some of his fuel. Winners all round!

I picked the car up on Thursday and so far I have to say I'm fairly impressed. It drives like a brand new car. While it was under Simon's care he took it to Euan at CP Garage services, a well known Italian specialist. Mechanically the car is spot on - it needs a n/s/r handbrake cable replacing and a couple of tiny patches of welding for its MOT. Other than that, it's in great shape.

Bodywork needs some attention - the roof & boot lid are in a poor state, as is the bonnet and rear door. From a distance the car looks ok and it's hard to believe it turns 20 next month!

So the immediate plan is to get her through an MOT, I've an appointment with a spray shop on Monday to price up bodywork repairs and then its OEM / OEM plus.

She's already had a spare 'car of the year' sticker added, the scabby wheel trims swapped for ELX ones, a standard stereo has been fitted and I've had to replace the drivers mirror as it was failing. Long term I'm thinking a set of GT or Coupe alloys in gunmetal grey....and that's about it!

Did I mention it has super low miles and even has a working Meta alarm...chuffed is an understatement (y)

She's away for MOT / pre MOT work tonight.

Tried getting the GT Alloys on y'day but when we tried it turns out the bolts I ended up with have literally 2 or 3 threads and just don't feel secure, so I think a plan B is needed.

Other than that, 380 miles in and life with Betsy is good (y)

Gotta admit the test drive I had of the mk1 yesterday really put a smile on my face. It's such a fun wee thing, more so because it doesn't have all the mod cons and you really have to connect with it.

It made my car feel quite bland and disappointing this morning despite the extra power and decent music ;)
