My Build Thread

Hey guys i was half way threw 18 when I got my first car. I chose a Fiat Punto 1.2 16V Sporting over a Saxo . Cutting a LONG story short i had numerous troubles trying to get this car,Colour,Sporting,6 Speed gear box etc etc. First time on Auto Trader lady was veyr nice was going down to see her on the Saturday. Phoned her up again on the Saturday to let her know In was going down with my dad just after lunch "ohh... im sorry to tell you I sold the car last night" me -> . So after a other 4weeks waiting a other sporting appear . This time was in a car lot so bound to get it. Problem was though it was 400miles away. But my dad said we would travel as I was about the last time. So phoned the garage up atleast 4 times on the way down. Got there at 4:30. I began looking around for my punto.......... "thats funny i can see a fiat Punto??" So spoke to the manager guy. "Hi im looking for a fiat Punto MK2 Sporting in grey?" "Oh sorry m8 i sold the car at around 4:00. that Point I nearly punched the guy. The guy i was on the phone with had finish his shift at 3:30 and didnt tell his boss we were coming down!! so basically we drove 400miles for a bag of chips. Like the film Gone In 60 Seconds trying to get the GT500 somthing ALWAYS happens.

Three weeks later!. Phoned a guy in Auto Trader and told him i was coming down in the morning. I explained to him the trouble i went threw and he said he would keep the car for me. Picked the car up from the guy I had this face the whole way home -> :) .

THE MODS!!!!!!
Believe it or not I already had a picture in myhead exactly how i wanted it too look. Gave me things to think about while trying to get the car. Im studying AutoMotive Refinishing at College. Which is panel beating and spraying. Following that course will be doing a busines course. So i knew i was allowed to work on my car for free/ GET PAID FOR IT LOL!.

Few pictures of the car when I bought it paid £1500
Car came with
4 New TOYO T1 ties
Full new Exhasut
12months Road Tax
12Months MOT
New Brake and Brake pads
around 65k on the clock

After many hours of work. Smoothing bumpers, Audio Suspension and some Engine work. She went from this when i bought her.

Hey guys removed my wolfrace alloys. Bought a set of BBS Ra's. Got them sand blasted, powder coated, then clear coated.fitted my front BBS few days ago sit Minted on the front. The back end of the car now is going to be tricky. First off the Rear Drum the gold part on the back. Is bigger than the hole on the BBS. But it fitted on the front ok. So took the Gold piece off tried. Still to big. Rear wheels are going to a engineering shop o get 2-3mm skimmed off. The car has had a 50mm drop and im pretty sure my new BBS are going to scrub. As from the photos below you can see they stick out more than my previous wheels. Either stick my rear springs back on the car see how it stands. I think its going to sit far to high if i do that. Or get a set of 35mm lowering springs on the back.

There is a set of 35mm lowering springs on ebay for a grande punto. Will these springs fit my punto?

Here are pictures of the bbs fitted to the front of my car

there should be no reason why the rear wheels wont go on the rear drums as the bore will be the same front and back unless the drums on the back are not the standard drums or it could just be a corosion issue on the drums maybe a little rust has built up on the drums preventing the wheel sitting on them again i wouldnt go for the engineering route unless you are absolutly sure that they wont go on as they might over engineer them and then the wheel wont sit on the hub fully which will strain the bolts and wont be 100% safe

if i were you i would use a dremmel with a small sanding head and go around the inside of the wheel and the outside of the hub and give them a good clean and see how that goes

as for the springs and the rears rubbing you might get away with a different size tyre or maybe a small spacer to bring them away form the arches unless they are to big for that but i cannot gaurantee that the grande springs will fit it :)

althought the bbs are nicely finished :D

Could you measure the center bore of the alloys? It should be 58.1mm. If not then yeah you need to have it opened up in the engineering shop :) .

do let me know how much this cost ya tho!

But defo weird front fitted and rear didn't. has the got normal spacers for hubcentirc?

P.S - if you get there the center bore open up by an engineering shop, there is not unsafe about or put any strain on the wheel bolts/studs.

Thanks
Ming

what are you talking about ming i said if the engineering shop overdue the boring out then yes there would be strain on the bolts its a small risk and thats why i said it should be a last resort as there is no going back from it once the boring out is done

Bad sentence :

P.S - if you get there the center bore open up by an engineering shop, there is nothing unsafe about it or put any strain on the wheel bolts/studs.

The reason why i stated that there is a few sets of Honda rims I want for the fia,t but the CB is way too small for the fiat :( so it needs open up. I'ld be more worried about wobbly nuts/bolts rather than opening up the Cb, but both are proven to be safe as it is used commonly.

If he opens the bore up to 58.1 (fiat spec), how will this put stain on studs / nuts ? (i.e. All fiat alloys have 58.1mm CB and is the lip that takes the weight, so it be doing the same job).

Ming

if the enginneering shop OVERboar the alloy ie you ask for 58.1 and they do 59 then they are liable for new rims so they wont get it wrong. tbh take em straight to the shop and get em bored to 58.1 exactly. all will be well. and hey dont worry too much about overboring there are spigot rings that will make it 100% safe so its not so scary after all

grande springs also WONT fit as its a GM chassais of the corsa D not fiat so it wont even be close.

oh have to ask have you got spacers on the front? if you have are the hubcentric. if their not then your not on the hub where a you would be at the back hense them not fitting. in which case you need them ALL opening out to 58.1 EXACTLY and get some propper hubcentricsto make it completely safe.

Liking the style you've got going there. Mirrors are different too and the BBS' do rather set it off though the Wolfrace worked well too :)

Sounds like a right nightmare to have gotten the car in the first place though. Surprised you'd have to go that far to get something I thought was relatively common.

I understand that feeling, once your heart is set on it. There is no looking back :) .

We done a 900 miles round trip to get the cappo :D

I Used plastic first then plastic welded over the holes. Then used fibreglass and smoothed till it was flush. Same process for both sides. For the rear washer jet im Mig Welding over the hole. Have the spoiler painted and back on the car wednesday.
