Hey peeps,

Guess I'll post up my wee project as well. It has been an extremely long project, it is only now it is getting closer to be finished! With the help from Daivd Rally cinq :D .

Let me start it started life as this:

Had the 14" PGT wheels on it, but being an 899, it just made the car undrivable super sluggish kinda took the fun factor out the car :D So wheels off, back onto standard sporting rims with 50mm/30mm FK spring kit:

Love the look of the car, but it was just plain silly when i come to see a speed bump, i literally have to do a U-turn when i seen them, so back on normal 40mm lowering springs. At this point the car were the way i wanted it, it had Punto 32mm throttle body, novitec structbrace, slightly ported head by my brother. It was a never a sporting but it was extremely fun :) .

All good things comes to an end :( , with the constant tappets trouble (they keep flying out :( ). With in 2 months i have taken the head off like 8 -10 times or so! Here is just some random pictures:

So went along to burnhouse to have a chat with David in a super depressed mood and at that point really really fed up with the centos. (Was going to move on to buy a Civic or so). That night, i had a pm from 'rallycinq' something along the lines of 1242 :D and he was willing to be my consultant for the project. Couldn't refused the offer so engine out time :D

(Forgot to mention, I know from a sporting to 1242 is an easy swap, I have not got an idea about 899 to 1242 at this point)

Continue on next post.

Engine out :)

The 1242 engine brought from fluffy along with cam belt kit, thermostat, o ring seal, came shaft oil seal and new clutch kit. Gearbox /drive shaft/gear linkage from David. Will add some picture tomorrow when i take some. Just for other peeps, incase someone is looking to do a 899 to a 1108 or 1242, this is what you need:

  • 1108/1242 engine and gearbox + all engine mounts[/*:m:bab3qzd1]
  • Exhaust system from the sporting[/*:m:bab3qzd1]
  • Gear linkage from sporting[/*:m:bab3qzd1]
  • Thermostat from sporting[/*:m:bab3qzd1]
  • Starter/alternator from the sporting (1108)[/*:m:bab3qzd1]
  • Header Tank from sporting,[/*:m:bab3qzd1]
  • All Radiator hoses[/*:m:bab3qzd1]
  • Drive shaft from the sporting[/*:m:bab3qzd1]
  • Cannister from sporting[/*:m:bab3qzd1]
  • dial clocks from sporting (add a wire for rev counter)[/*:m:bab3qzd1]
  • speedo cable/ clutch cable from sporting[/*:m:bab3qzd1]
  • 15mm spacers for the exhaust mani. (taller engine)[/*:m:bab3qzd1]

Modify the 899 loom, - extending wires to plug into the throttle body, change reverse light switch plug to suit sporting gearbox, extend started motor wire (David found this out for me :D ). Extend the wire to plug into the cannister.
(Reason begin, the sporting engine exhaust mani is at the front, 899 exhaust mani is at the back so a few wires is slightly shorter)

The current modifications i have for the car are:

40mm throttle body, GSR kit, P75 cam to fit, Uno turbo front brakes, novitech struct brace, 40mm lowering kit. Currently in 2 mind about a Anti-roll bar, comopotive alloys in 13" :D .Got harness from david and seat at a later date, will be fitted once it passed MOT! Studs/nuts conversion, a must for anyone with UT brakes at the front.

Well I did really think this was finished, just the other day as i was going to bleed the rear brakes, i found a hole in my rear arm :( . So today i went out and taken the whole rear beam off and got a a complete set up from a 2003 sei so the conditions will be much better :) . Poly bushes will be fitted onto the arm before it goes back on.

Up to this point, it has been longer than year i have spent on this. It has been an extremely steep learning curves! Hopefully i can get ut motd soon and do some auto testing in it :D

Will get more picutres tomorrow!

I actually kind of fancy a project like this. Not sure if I'd be able to do it where I currently stay as I don't have a lock up or any place to really park something like that up to work on. However learning the mechanics of a car top to bottom and getting it sorted in the way your doing certainly sounds appealing. Shall be interested to see the results (y)

Yup yup, i do it in my front gardens as well. Working in the rain certainly no fun!

Andy - i'll got the whole rear beam from jiminwatfords for £65 sent :D . Do you know if they have any cinqs there? Need a rear tow hook!

Thanks
Ming

Good project ming an another blue cinq lurking in the background too. Is the 3rd picture of the front wheel with the 70mm springs before it's settled?

Extreme bad weather has stopped the progress! So far I have got both rear arms off + rear beam, and got one flexi off. (really hope the other will come off as i have socked it in plug gas for several days now). Under seals the rear again since all the bits is off now. Will be pictures, when the snow melts away ....

Thanks
Ming

The snow is still in the way getting really annoying now so sorry for the lack of pics!

Progress:

Got all the rear brakes pipes off (flexi and hard pipe on the arm). For anyone that wants to replace their cento flexi + hard pipe on the arm you would need an 80cm braided hose. (Just means less hassel for the future, less joints, easier to remove in the future)

Really wanted to go for the UT rear caliper upgrad, but can't really afford it.

Should get ma rear beam and arms this week and poly bushes.
