Right the project finaly has some life got me one of those there fancy punto engine's (well a 1242cc 8v spi unit) This will replace the now slightly ill 1108cc unit currentley in the car. Along with my d.i.y made 40mm TB and replace the KN induction kit to a foam piper-cross one

On the out side of the car I am planing fitting side skirts and new front + rear bumper donate from my alfa 33 before it got scrapped.

Woot, good to see it's finally getting there :D

Did you get much done on your day off today?

Got the new punto engine and gear box out from my car as it had spent monday siting where my passanger seat should go. Took of the TB & both the manifolds off and seperated the engine from the gear box.

you probably know, but i guess is good time for new belts, tensiors, water pump, clutch and stuff to pop on :D ?

And while you at it might as well give the engine a jet down with some gunk then some paint :)

Thanks Ye Iam going to replace all i can and make it all nice and shiny. I am half tempted to bung on a punto 75 cam and re shim it if i can get hold of a came before i actualy put the engine in the car.
ye more power for my tin can

If you're going to do the cam...... a wee bit of porting and polishing on the head probably wouldn't go amiss either.
Matching up the valves and valve seats makes a hell of a difference. But, to be fair, FIATs are generally better than most (y)

Hi thanks ye the possabilaty of a wee bit of a polish had crossed my mind i am a bit wary of porting I dont want to risk taking a bit too much off and end up destroying the cylinder head but i have a spare one as i could always use the cylinder head of the 1108 engine in the car at the moment. Hmm more power i like it

Just get some old inlet and exhaust gasket then just port the hole on the head to match up the gasket :) well and just smooth it out too.

Thanks i did not think about doing it that way.
Below is a list of items iam going to reneq /replace on the engine before it gets fitted to the Cinq

Cylinder head gasket, head bolts, oil filter, spark plugs timeing belt, water pump timeing belt tensioner, new oil, water &anti freeze. Oh needs a sump the one on it is more Rust than tin and just to top it of a nice new Clutch. I would like to get a 4-2-1 manifold but the budget wont stretch to that at the moment. taht can come later on. Let know if you hink i have missed any thing .

camshaft oil ring,o ring (at the coil packs), valve stem oil seals and remeber to skim the head :D [Really should get a head set would give you all the gaskets and valvue stem oil seals]

Honestly, dive on to clubcento and contact fluffy :) , get the stuff really cheap :) .

oh and you also need a spacers (15mm) to go between the standard cinq mani and the exhaust so therefore u need 2 gaskets (1 each for each side of the spacers)

Cool wil have a look. For the echaust spacer I was just goingto take mr grinder to the sown pipe and then weld weld in an extra bit of pipe. I think i am going tohave to make a new list.

Thought i would put in a little update on how the project is going. Well it seems to have hit a bit of a go slow I am in the process of a complete engine re-build before i put it into the car. I have got to the point of replaceing the valve stem oil seals but i think they must be welded in as they are not budgeing. Though i amjust useing normal pliers so i am now on the hunt for the correct pliers for removeing valve stem oil seals though they seem to be a bit tricky to fine a pair as none of the local motor factors or halfords seem to have any instock. the hunt will carry on.

Think some picture is in order here :D

My 899 to 1242 is almost finished :D . car starts run sweet with no management lights. Just a few things before MOT!

Am sure those oil stem seals will just come out with force!

Cinq Upgrade

Well time for a wee update. The engine is rebuilt and after a bit of an argument the engine and gear box are back together again with a new clutch. Just need to get the whole unit into the engine bay and conected to the car then make some sort of d.i.y 10mm spacer for the exhaust. Really should get a new radiator as well my one in about as efective as swiss cheese. If all goes well and iam lucky she will be back on the road for the FS Perth weekend.

Keep going young man, looking forward to seeing you disappear into the distance infront of me and the "grey ghost" ;)

Yee haa the Cinq is back on the road. After much fighting with mr engine and mr gear box. I am still to put my d.i.y 40mm TB back on just got a standard one on at the moment but there is a definate increase in accelaration and torque. Over takes no longer require a planing commitie and a very long straight lol.
