Project Cinq!

Project Cinq!

okay dokey, project cinq now really is a project in the proper sense......

seeing as the list of faults grew today, thats it, i've had enough. It's going off the road to be done properly a.s.a.p. both mechanicly and exterior wise.

Today, the pedal pivot came off, the alternator decided enough was enough, a headlight connector plug burnt out and rather randomly, when i broke down in a huge blueish plume of clutch smoke when the pivot and spring failed, my hazard light switch decided its going to not do anything except sit there as a decoration. cheers for that you useless orange piece of tat.

i had to recover it across a busy main road by pushing it in between gaps in the traffic to get up a side street, then spent 2 hours fiddling about at the roadside trying to bodge up the pivot just to get the 3 miles home again.

i eventually did, and it now sits 80% dead outside my house :(

majorly pissed off......

Damn :(

Gutted mate, your having some seriously shitty luck with motors ATM!

i dont get why the major problems always happen under a week before a FS meet!!!!

Must be a Fiat thing... my Punto only ever broke down when i was going to the snooker...

I now either have to repair it for the weekend, or get something else so i can get that one off the road for a while to get everything done properly. AND ive still not heard back about the garage yet... i need it now, badly, so im chasing that up tomorrow. i've came to realise its totally hopless having a cinq without somewhere you can fix it regularly.

chances are i'll be at montrose if the meet goes ahead, but just not in the cinq :(

I'm sure if worst comes to worst someone will head to Dundee and pick you up. You've got my mobile so if your stuck on Sunday gives a shout! I'm sure between the lot of us we can sort something out. I *might* have to head to Dundee anyway, if my spy turns up trumps. I've got it on good authority theres a higher spec HGT (poss abarth?) being broken in a scrappy down by you.. and I've got a small shopping list!

Cheers :) If i get the garage, a few late nights in there should see it back on the road for the meet, if not, i could still have an option in that silver calibra.... providing i could get a better insurance quote ;) either way, i'm sure i'll have wheels a'runnin by the weekend :)

ooooh, hgt abarth??? :D wonder what scrappies...

i saw a nice marea getting broken recently at the one out by fintry, if i get the cally, i'll be heading up to that to nick yet more bits off their selection of calibras....well the bits that arent now on my mates se2 ;) , if you wanted, i could nick the polys of the marea if im there, and they are still available?

got a cally induction kit and rear lights here cheap ;)

Today, walked down to the fiat dealer and bought a new pivot, took out the old one and replaced, so at least we have movement again! :D

also went to have a quick peek at another calibra i've been tipped off about. this ones even tattier to look at, but half the price of the other one i had in mind, so could well be a goer!

Also some news on the garage, should have it in 2 weeks... no feckin use to me really, i need it now!!!! :(

did you get a good size of garage then

not bad.... not anywhere near as big as i was hoping, but may just do 2 centos at a time... its only a temporary place anyway, i'm still looking for somewhere alot bigger for a proper project hq :)

nah, the big delay is while they fit a new lock to the place :(

if they gave me the lock, id have it fitted in 5 mimutes!

2 weeks... is that including the obligitory, "wait until i scratch my arse" time the council include into all jobs!

Wee update

Was driving 2 days ago, and what once felt like a car with 85bhp felt more like it had 65bhp. i put it down to my manifold getting further and further away from being describeable as attatched to the engine at first.

Later on, as i accelerated up the road, when i put my foot down, nothing at all happened for about 3 seconds then suddenly i got all the power back briefly... very odd, did this another few times and settled down again, hmmmm.

Even later on in the journey, on the dual carriageway, accelerating to overtake, and i go down to what feels like 3 cylinders, lift off the power, change down a gear, accelerate, alls fine again, as the revs pick up, it cuts to 3 cylinders again. now im not really as puzzled, but very concerned, temps all perfect etc, plenty coolant in, no leaks of any sort. but i know im nursing a problem, so pull over for a look. Nothing immediatley apparent. Start the car up, sounds a bit off key, rev it, sounds rough. leave it a few minutes alls well again.

hmmmmm

keeps doing that all the way home. as i get back, i open the bonnet in the dark to check for an arcing lead, nothing. But i knew long before then all my suspicions and paranoia were correct from the past few weeks.

Next day i open thy bonnet, look around, notice the coolant looks a tad dark, opened the cap... lovely. Oil! :(

yes folks, we have very early signs head gasket weepage! :(

bugger and plums.

I need to make this clear. The HG was done 3 weeks before i got the car when it blew. only its not been done right. either the head bolts werent renewed, were not tightened to the correct torque, the gasket was poor, not sealed right, or the head wasnt skimmed. the car has only done about 3k since it was done.

It brings my plan of a rebuild/upgrade to a16v/ 1.4 or some turboage closer, and as its going off the road really soon, its not to much of a hassel, and it is driveable until them as its not overheating etc. I am however, FURIOUS, that the job was totally buggered up in the first place. This was supposed to be a well looked after car!! im beginning to think, "was it hell" more like alot of bits were bolted on, and no attention was paid ever to maintainance unless something fell off.

anyway, the plans are all coming for the rebuild etc, im just looking forward to starting now :)

TBH, I'm not all that surprised - I saw the HGT at Stanford Hall and it wasn't looking all that tidy considering there was nowt wrong with it when you swapped it for the Cinq.

If you do upgrade to 1368 powaaaaahh, can I have the 1242? :D I don't mind a rebuild project as I would have done it anyway regardless of where I got the new engine from.

aye, if the 1242 comes out, i'll let you know :)

just getting a 1.4 for decent money is impossible though, then i need to budget for some new manifolds, exhaust bits, and a new engine management setup like megasquirt (which is next on my mod list anyway). i already have a few bits for a turbo conversion, so that or a 16v 1242 p75 conversion with a total rebuild of what i have will be the best cost to performance gain imo. just running a turbo scares me though!

hence my plan for a second daily runner ;) that way, cinq could be as wild as could be, and doesnt have to get its feet wet/dirty. should keep it at least 10% reliable :)
