EDIT: P.S abyss113 how can i read post properly with your avatar distracting me lol

After several little problems (actualy, bigish is a better word) The Cinq went back on the road properly a couple of days ago :D

Rear gearbox mount has failed twice in the past 3 weeks, 1st was just due to age, second was a faulty part, got that sent back and replaced, only for them to send me an engine mount off god knows what! it wasn't what i needed anyway, but its sorted now :) The exhaust is still firing itself off the hangers every now and then, but a couple of little modifications will sort that :)

Cv joint has been replaced, all put back, and its working! :)

Map sensor has also been cleaned out to help solve some starting problems and running issues ive been having

AND theres been a few little tweaks ;)

When the mount went, the engine fell back. this made the old induction kit hit the strutbrace and underside of the bonnet and break so it couldnt seal on the throttle body. good excuse to get a better kit ;)

so i got a GSR :D , so much more responsive at low revs, made me wonder how much more i could do with little tweaks... so i uprated the fuel pump, the extra fuel pressure seems to have gotten rid of a couple of flatspots nicely :)

I then got the "tweaking" bug after 5 things recently ive done on it working perfectly ;) , so its now got an 866 p75 cam and a new (well, i mean old) unsoldered type ecu i had lying around is now on the car and containing a mccritch chip :)

Its getting about as far as i can take it with add ons for a 1.2 8v without ripping it apart for some porting etc, although i have some manifolds lying around i may do some work on ;)

the next stage will be either a conversion to a 1.4 16v with a megasquirt management setup...... or up to mpi 16v 1.2 turbo :D

sounds like youve been having fun :D
we shouldve taken the cars up the kingsway for a testing run when i say you earlier :D

I'm now in full swing looking for premises/project hq to take the cinq off the road for a 1.4 16v upgrade :) . i fear the 1.2 is now dying a very slow, random, blue, smokey death.

i dont get why its smoking completley randomly, it can be fine for 10 to 15 minutes, then give out one almighty plume of blueish white smoke, or it can do it at every junction, or none at all. theres no pattern to when it starts or stops smoking. very, very strange!

anyway, while we're off road, it will be getting a cosmetic makeover alongside its mechanical one. if only i could find a damn place to do the work! :(

while its off the road, i will probably be joining the dark side..... vauxhall!

only temorary mind until the cinq is well again ;) ... unless it looks to good, in which case, it may be more of a show car im scared to muck up, rather than the daily driver it is now.

i now get smoke also out of the interior vents in traffic, so have to keep them closed!

the exhaust thing is a funny one, i dont think the engine is to blame entirely, im in theory mode, but it all relates to that damn g/box mount snapping a while back :(

when the snapped, i think its knocked the clutch adjustment out and is not disengaging, and as the mount is actually a bodged one now, depending how the cars sitting, it alters the clutches position slightly when the pedal is pressed.

So if im at, say, a roundabout, waiting to go, clutch down. sitting for 15 to 20 seconds, the heat and friction built up means, when i accelerate, i get a plume of smoke. yes, its clutch smoke :O

if i am sitting with the car in neutral, and the clutch up, when i pull away, i get absolutlety no smoke at all, no matter how long ive been sitting there, or if im on a hill or not.

so that explains why we have a totally random smoke, it all depends on where the engine/box is on its mounts, and how long the clutch has been depressed.. all complete variables.

the mystery smoke may be getting closer to diagnosed after all!

im renaming this car smokey joe for now ;)

sounds like your having fun with the newly named smokey joe :) as for me i got a suprise today :D my driver side strut with all parts have arrived so i now finnaly have a new carrier hub for the wheel to sit safely on :) just need to get some time to fit it now trying to decide if i should get another cv joint for that side though or should the existing one be ok ??

i would say the old one will be fine :) cento's arent hard on their cv joints, only reason mine was mangled was because it was running a little bit more power and has been ragged round castle combe and other race tracks several times before i got it.

strange thing for a small, light car though... they eat wheel bearings!, thats not a smokey special, they all seem to do it.

well if im finished reasonably early today ill give you a call and we can discuss problems if your not to busy :D

Thanks for the ride-along in Smokey Joe today Mark, was funny giving that Polo a wee puff of smoke, lol

no problem :)

haha yeah, i just felt i had to give the polo a wee blast of smoke, it had a horrible bonnet vent, so i thought id give them something to put in it ;)

its quite fun now ive worked out i can do that completley at will :D

how was the drive back up to elgin?

Fantastic :D

Was the Sei in presentable enough condition? Did they locas perform a Dundee pitstop?

Oi! At least the car goes faster after a dundee pitstop, weight saving and all that ;) up in aberdeen the process is slowed down while they work out how to get the boot shut with the sheep in the back :p ;)
