I see they're causing controversy again and have gotten themselves chucked out of Argentina while filming this year's Xmas special.

Can't decide if it's a publicity stunt or the Argies just looking for any excuse to get upset over the Falklands. Some of the supposed evidence does seem tenuous at best (numbers on the plates of the mustang and lotus close to the number of dead) but after all the stunts they've pulled in the past I certainly wouldn't put it past them to have done this deliberately.

H982 FKL was never going to be a good idea in Argentina though and if, as they claim, it was a genuine error then they were pretty bloody stupid for not spotting it in the first place.

Publicity stunt, they say at one point they had to stop recording, but before that said that they now have a better ending..

I have a wee bit of doubt in my mind simply because after all the controversy of Burma I suspect that everything they do is run past the BBC lawyers first. And lets face it coming out with "we're going to Argentina in cars we've chosen deliberately because their plates might incite the locals" would have them told not a ****ing chance. It may be that this was a genuine oversight by everyone and we're only seeing the Falklands connection because it's been pointed out to us in the first place.

Fact is we may never really find out if it was publicity or not but it's certainly worked out that way

They've done number plate "jokes" in the past, so it could well be that this is another and they expected (and wanted) a bit of outrage to happen, but it went beyond what they expected.

The fact they've done number plate jokes in the past simply raises my level of doubt from 5% to 10%

Having previous makes it more difficult to argue that it was an oversight as it can be pointed out, as you did, that they've done it in the past and therefore it was on purpose

Mind you, most of their show discussions are allegedly carried out in the pub so yeah, they probably did think they could get away with it again

My money would be on it being deliberate, but not expecting the locals to notice or make a fuss about it

Let's be honest as well, pretty much every, every road trip film they do, Clarkson mentions a war at some stage.

And remember when they did the Vietnam trip, the "backup" bike was painted in the stars and stripes (which tbh, i thought was pretty poor taste back then)

It was deliberate.

I think the reaction was much, much more than they expected though.

Oi!

Please don't distract Stuart from being indebted to FS with your "TG are asking for it with their controversial comments" controversial comments
