New (old) Top Gear

New (old) Top Gear

Not expecting much from this in all honesty. I expected them to do their own take on the show but just looks like the exact same formula with less funny/likeable people.

I imagine 'The Grand Tour' will wipe the floor with 'Top Gear'.

The specials have some of the best moments though. I still howl every time Clarkson has his new suit on his little Vespa in Vietnam... 'I am now boldly going where no American has gone before... CRASH" :D

Oh I agree and as I said, when they got it right they nailed it. But the specials were beginning to get a little tired in places so I hope they've got some new ideas to keep things fresh and entertaining and don't just rely on themselves getting in to ludicrous situations in various countries

Looks like they have changed the presenters and that's about all. have to say I thought Matt la blanc was pretty good. Evens was his normal over excited self.

Yup, for all the doubters who thought he was just a gimmick I can definitely put up with Matt as a presenter.... Mr Evans every bit as annoying as he always has been though. See if he calms down after he's done a few shows eh.

I thought it was a decent start. Le Blanc (perhaps as expected) stole the show. Evans just came across like he was trying way, way too hard and trying too obviously to be a knock off Clarkson. Would have liked to seen a little more in depth reworking to the format and not too sure where they can go after already exhausting the whole Britain v America thing this week, but overall it was far from the catastrophe many thought (even in some cases wished) it would be.

Needs a couple more shows to judge how the format and relationship between the presenters develops.

Caught this for the first time on Sunday and oh deary me. The aston segment was great but the rest was just a huge disappointment - although can't judge the Tesla portion as I'd dozed off at that point. I really wanted Sabine to be better than she was but it just felt forced (although not as bad as Eddie) and the challenge felt all over the place. Did I miss them mentioning left-over budget was critical in getting them to Venice? To me it just suddenly appeared when Sabine was paying the tolls.

As for the SIARPC, way too long and way too scripted :(

Oh well, at least I know now I'm not missing anything

Apart from Chris Evans trying to be a high pitched shouty Clarkson... I think it's actually ok...

Think the last few shows have been fairly decent. Arguably better than anything the old 3 had put out for the past 3 or 4 seasons.

That's not saying they can't improve on a lot, more the "old" show was so tired it needed the change but there's definite signs that the new folk are starting to get to grips with it and get more comfortable.

Very noticeable Chris Evans toned it down a lot this week, he was much more tolerable, seemed to take a little more of a backseat and let Matt Le Blanc (who continues to impress) lead a little more. Definitely didn't feel as "look at me, even when you're not meant to be, just look at me anyway".

Chris Harris undoubtedly the star of the road tests, would go as far as saying he's even better at them than Clarkson, Hammond and May. Hell, even Rory Reid is putting in a decent impression (albeit i think he's trying just a touch too hard at times).

If Chris Evans takes last week as something to build on, i think they are onto something longer term, series should definitely be judged at the end IMO.

Sabine is a bit.... rubbish, though (but needs time) and Eddie Jordan is clearly being asked to act, and he never will be an actor and is struggling horribly to get to grips with it all (albeit he was pretty funny last time he was on making a mess on the 4x4 road trip test).

As for SIARCC.... i skip it on Iplayer (i might feel differently about the whole thing if i watched it, forced interviews just don't interest me).

Rory would get the bump before Evans for me. Really think his reviews are guff & cringe at times.

I think it should be Eddie that goes first.. then Evans. Eddie is just trying too hard. And is failing badly, I don't know if he is being asked to act, or if he feels he should be something he isn't..

And Chris Evans, although settled down a bit, is still a bit child like.. Waaaayyyy he went through the water... WAAAYYYY got air... Waaaayyyy this, Waaaayyyy that...

Yeah, some of the presenters are bad and need to be changed but they also need to work on the format. I stopped watching Top Gear a few years back when I gave up on non-streamed tv altogether so I've no idea how dire it was towards the end with the old three. What I watched on Sunday was pretty poor imo (apart from the Vulcan as I've already said) and even if I had a tv licence I doubt I'd go out of my way to watch it like I used to in the heyday of Clarkson et al. I blame the new script writers tbh

Well that was the final episode of the new top gear over all I have to say I like it. Some proper reviews and apart from the ginger whinger I like the the new presenters though there does seem to be a lack of chemistry among them though that is probably to be expected since they have not worked together in the past.
