New (old) Top Gear

New (old) Top Gear

Might be an unpopular opinion, but Evans the past couple of shows has almost been borderline likeable during his videos  (though i must stress, i still skip the star in a rallycross car part). Wish they would bin that section tbh. Wouldn't mind if they just did racing drivers from different disciplines of motorsport taking to the track in a decent car, though. Could be fun seeing former and current F1 drivers v BTCC v WRC v Nascar v DTM v WEC v Formula E v Indycar etc to see who is the fastest of the fast. Would much prefer that to an actor plugging a film or a chef.

There's no need for Sabine or Eddie. Chemistry massively lacking between Evans and LeBlanc. Honestly thought it was very, very noticeable for the first time tonight that they actually really don't get on though. The studio parts felt very, very forced and awkward between them, very stilted chat yet when Le Blanc was speaking to Chris Harris and Rory after their pieces it didn't feel like that at all.

Can definitely see one of Evans or Le Blanc walking and tbh will be for the best.

Overall though i think the series has been a relative success, Probably the best series for at least 2 or 3 years.

I think its a shame, but feel Mark may have hit the nail on the head.

Sometimes presenters just don't gel - and thats not neccessarily anyone's fault, but I think LeBlanc, Rory & Chris will front it with Eddie hopefully gone too - he's literally added nothing to the series

Yeah the only thing Jordan added to the series was in that 4x4 trip, He was entertaining purely because he was utterly rubbish and it became a good joke for one piece. That's not something i want to see more of though, he's miles out of his depth on every level and brings zero. Has to go.

Sabine is undoubtedly a hugely talented driver but i just don't think she works as an official Top Gear presenter, but i'd bin Jordan and hope she could grow into the role. Definitely needs to tone it down and stop trying so hard to be OTT funny, her best moments by far in the series were when she was being relatively serious.

I recon it's probably for the best Evans has left, don't get me wrong i thought he improved as the season went on but he did seem like he didn't really fit and it was noticeable the less he featured the more rounded the show felt and that there was definite tension between him and LeBlanc in that last episode. It was just pure tension to the point where you could see LeBlanc wasn't even trying to be convincing with the "scripted banter". It was half arsed and hammy with a lot of awkward pauses.

Harris, Reid and LeBlanc will do fine. If they want to add another presenter to replace Evans, Jordan and perhaps Sabine. If Jenson Button retires at the end of the F1 season, then he's perfect for it. Chemistry isn't something you can just switch on, it needs time and i'm sure those 3 (especially with Reid and Harris allowed more room) having more time to work together will see that develop more, especially now the one that was trying to be centre of attention is out the way. Kinda feel those 3 get on at least on some level but are having to say things to a script, hopefully they are given more free reign to be themselves.

Slightly off-topic but I had to do a recruitment training course this morning. Part of it covered job discrimination and apparently it's not illegal to discriminate against gingers :twist: :D

I guess the beeb didn't keep that in mind when they employed CE in the first place
