Just been to the local fiat place with some interesting results! It would appear that although my car is part of the "batch" that need attention re the brake pipes, it would appear that punto brake pipes are made of solid gold or something.

700 quid the guy reckons the work would cost if I were to have to pay out of my own pocket!

Oh yes, might as well let fiat pick up the bill if its a recall eh

You know that if you were to pay out for this work yourself it'd end up costing you 7-800 pounds!

They're also a bunch of liars. They told me the outstanding recall info based SOLELY upon my reg number. So they've been telling porkies somewhere or other (in other words, I shouldn't have had to go up there today  I coulda been sleeping dammit!!!!!!!!)

Still, cars going in first thing on thursday (apparently it could be a big job..I'll bet it will be once Uncle Arnold discovers stuff thats "wrong" with my car!) - just hoping FIAT supply me a courtesy car  been told this could take all day at least!

i wouldn't worry about it. just about every mk1 punto on the road today has had the recall. you should get under the car and have a look at the condition of the pipes yourself, it's simple  if there's no sign of any corrosion on the pipes all they will do is give them a light sanding to remove any dirt that has gathered on them and grease them up to stop them corroding

£7-800 and they might need the car all day? pffft. don't make me laugh.

Gonna go have a look today, will also take photos at some point (of the pipes!!) ;)

nightmare.

well you do have to look at it this way, if its a recall and fiat are paying for it then its not all that bad, and they would only recall them if there was a problem, so they could be saving your life.

still one whole day for some brake pipes is about the usual times if they are all getting replaced.

hope all goes well for you and theres no other problems that appear.

madcar

if u ask early enough for a courtesy car then i think they'l give u one, i asked wen mine went in for the brakes, and the luuuurvly chick behind the desk told me they were all out. :(

mine was in nearly all day....skivin fuks!

only rear pipes and flexi's were replaced

dont forget it may be a 2 day job
if they dont start the job till late afternoon

and if they do find other things wrong with the car then at least you will know about it coz you wont need to get it repaired there if it does need anything

They've said theyre going to start in the morning. Any of that "two day" crap and I'm going to HAVE to demand a courtesy car for work purposes ;)

wen i put my punto in for a recall i got it back in 2 hours then 3 days later my brakes were fooked and had to fork out for a whole new breaking system(done at autoquick). i called fiat arnold clark (aberdeen) about this and said i should have taken it to them. but i think since the recall was for brake pipes there could be sommit weird going on. the guy that looked at my car left that day. dont wanna accuse them but it is quite suspicious especially wen they get bad write ups.

They only get bad write ups when people put up very vague posts like yours or miss huge chunks of the story out when they tell other people to make it sound as bad as posible

the recall only concerns the metal brake lines on the car the fault being corosion

when you say your brakes fooked up 3days later and needed a whole new braking system, what was it that was wrong with them as the braking system contains many parts and would cost at least 3-400 quid on parts alone to do this

When mine went in it only took them until midday to fix it!! Although they didn't bother to service it and i had to re book my service and sent another day in dundee a week later!!! O the Joys!!

i got mine replaced well over a year ago on the recall and they replaced the brake cylinders as well(good will jesture) first and only.

i think you will only find out about it if you call them and give your v.i.n number and the can see if your car is in the batch for recall.

Every mk1 is due the recall but it has been going on for a couple of years now so most should have been done now

whilst on the subject of recalls a lot of early seicentos are being recalled due to tanks coroding if you are not the first owner of your seicento give a dealer a call with your last 8 and see if you need it done

yours will have had a fuel tank changed aprox 4 years ago
same fault as wi the seicentos

i need 2 put mine in 4 this recall and will probobly get cambelt done a t same time, anyone know how much arnold will cahrge 4 this?

Well i took the car into garage for 9 oclock and got it back about 11.

Waiting to get my keys back and the lady asked if i wanted my car washed  ...Well obviously if your gonna wash it for free then hell yes...lol So when it was ready, i got in it and discovered they had hoovered it too   Well chuffed
Great service......and from a fiat garage too!!!
