see the fact you can do all that is amazing...... but the fact NO ONE can work out how to do it without also spending a equal amount of time on the web to work it all out is not good :p

Yeah I'd recommend watching a couple of the videos on YouTube about it, the Yogscast ones are pretty funny even if they aren't the most informative in the world. Of course playing on the server with someone who already knows what they are doing can help ;)

aye, i think its one of them games thats soooo offputting as a noob and the learning curve is steep and not very exciting at the start it can very easily deter people and put them off... but im sure once you have the know how it can be alot of fun... like virtual lego

Basically virtual lego lol. After a good few months it does lose its spark. But then i dont play it for a month or so then get back into it lol

This! I'll play it for ages, getting all the best gear and then get fed up so stop. Month down the line I'm starting again.

I think that's part of the reason I started the server, so that I wasn't constantly starting a new world every time I got back into it. There is just something about the world being on the server that makes it feel more 'real' than on my local computer, like it is its own independent place and destroying it would be some sort of heinous act.

I've quick my job so I should have more time for game playing soon. That's not the reason I quit, well not the only reason, but it is a perk none the less.

They can move you places a lot faster than just walking and you can put stuff in them if you add a chest to it and then create a track back to your base so you can send mined stuff up without having to return home. Not sure of the combination for the chest-cart. You will however need gold and red stone to make powered rails so that you don't need to push your carts.

yeh, ive got three full stacks of red stone. but only 10 gold... it seems bare as hell lol. got 10 diamonds though XD... the world im in is bare as hell too. found only one tree and im living on the saplings they drop.. tough times, all i can find is deserts and sea.. walked/swimmed for two days in game and still found nothing but water and desert islands....

thankfully there is a huuuuuge cave system ive dropped into just near my base that goes all the way to bed rock :S. lol

Wow that's a hell of a cave!

A map is a good thing to make if you can find sugar cane to make paper. You'll also need a compass which is iron and red stone, pretty easy to get early on.

A friend just sent me this Minecraft video, well awesome http://youtu.be/gxzfcOKbR0I

Playing this again haha!

Finally got my server up and running and have been playing with a mate who just got into it recently. The server still seems a little un-reliable to be honest and its dynamic IP is a nuisance (although it's not too bad since it doesn't change often) but its pretty good considering I made it from an old computer that was lying around the house and only spent a couple of quid throwing in some more RAM.

Next up I think I'll add a script that checks if the server is running and if it isn't starts it up again. Then one that I wrote at work that connects to the internet to get the outside IP address and updates it in an external database so even if it does change you can still find it out easily enough.

Exciting times!
