I was always more of a Spectrum person

Wouldn't mind building myself a Nintoaster though...

i'd like to see alot of classic consoles getting a rebirth like this

for example the dreamcast.....only built properly

I still maintain the dreamcast was ahead of its time. In fact, it was maybe too early and unfortunately gave Playstation/Xbox a heads up as to where to aim. Get the tie ins with games like Gran Turismo and it was always going to be onto a loser from then on!

bingo

dreamcast was so far ahead of it's time it was delivering things xbox 360 and ps3 are only just doing well now, remember the dreamcast was actually a late ps1 rival ;)

quality wise, it still stands up today which shows just how good it was......as you say though, they showed the way for the big guns and because sega had put so much into it, to vaguely get it cost effective they neither built it properly or fully developed its components. sega probably shot themselves in the foot by making it so advanced tbh

If you think about it, the VMU's were basically an early pen drive. Except they had screens and controls of their own. You could programme your own games/screensavers for em.

DC was also able to play video off of discs. Admittedly the quality was a bit ****, but the PS1 couldnt play films. Then there's the idea of running off of a windows CE based operating system.

I'll have another DC at some point. Definately.

Wouldn't mind a Dreamcast myself as I do hear many good things. Had been a Sega fan up until PlayStation came about, though I've obviously never gotten rid of my Mega Drive as still think it was an awesome machine :)

Saturn was a bit of a misfire even if it did have some good points - it was always just overshadowed by the marginally better PlayStation and later the n64. I think as is often the case with consoles, the problem with the DC lay in the games development or lack of it. They just didn't seem to have the catalogue to draw on that Sony, Nintendo and even MS ended up getting and so they ended up going onto just being games developers instead of another console. Just wonder how long they can keep flogging the Sonic franchise with mediocrity :(

Indeed!

After the Saturn, it would have been nice if they'd gone away and taken their time with the Dreamcast. I guess that with the pace things move at, rushing something out in time to take on the competition was better than being last one to the race. Not that said tactic really failed microshaft...

Saturn had it's moments, but really it was a dissapointing machine. Take away Sega Rally and to a lesser extent Daytona, maybe Virtua Fighter as well, and it really was poorly supported!

I think with the Saturn, graphically it was a bit crap. Compare Tomb Raider on the two consoles and you can see what I mean. Pop up was evident on Ridge Racer but Daytona USA was miles worse.

The DC was indeed rushed out and MS did the same with the Xbox 360, which lead to years of RROD. I honestly didn't understand why they rushed it out in the way they did though. I mean, it was to take on the PS2, GameCube and XBox and to an extent it did but they just didn't have everything in place to take them on. Great ideas aside, they should've gotten a few good exclusives, made a bigger deal of the online abilities and put more money into what they had. But I guess it's easy for me to say that with the power of hindsight.
