A little off topic?maybe not actually as its still gaming........do you remember when the Amstrad CPC 464 and spectrum were about you could program your own games in :) ,you would have got them in magazines, once done you could copy and save them to tape to play them as and when you wished, silly question, but can you still do the like of this was a modern day pc?,if so,how?,remembering iam no Bill Gates,i ask as i see the net is full of these 80's programs,

Cheers Don

Haha yeah you can still do this, it's pretty much my job! Well, sadly it's not games I program but it is programming none the less. It's even easier than it used to be as well since you no longer need to program in BASIC but now have lots of nice high-level languages you can use. There is a bit of a learning curve but there is plenty of out there and once you get the fundamental stuff you're pretty much set.

Some good books and sites :

http://fivedots.coe.psu.ac.th/~ad/jg/ - Killer Game Programming, good book.

http://www.cokeandcode.com/info/tut2d.html - Space Invaders 101, all online

http://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/getStarted/index.html - The guide to getting started with Java, the programming language I mainly use.

Well got the dreamcast....get the feeling it lived with a smoker tho :(

Still, ripped the controller and console apart to give 'em a quick bath!

Yeah they are terrible for yellowing, worse than the snes!

Yeh...was reading as much online!

I've done what I can, but I believe there is a treatment available to de-yellow them.

Failing all else might strip the console completely out of it's shell and treat all the plastic to a quick lick of paint :)

There was a Spectrum plus 10 games in yesterday's Evening Express for a tenner, might interest someone, Scuderia perhaps?

Sorry to resurrect this.

I've got heaps of old consoles still and sometimes dig them out for a shotty. Have my original sega master system 2, sega mega drive 2, sega dreamcast playstation 1, xbox and n64. Had a commodore 64 before my master system but all the keys buggered so was got rid of. Bought another on ebay a while ago and still have it kicking about, Also bought a snes but never really had anything for it other than super mario

Envy!

I had an N64 (second) up until a couple of years back. Was skint at the time and had to sell it, along with a boxed copy of goldeneye.

Odd that you should pick yesterday to resurrect this thread as I just received a Dreamcast VMU in the post :)

I have 2 vmus. I loved using them for sonic but couldn't be arsed changing the batteries all the time

ive got a ps1 and n64 haha thats all.

are n64s even worth much? id definatly sell mine.

20games, two controlers, one of those graphic increaser thingies that goes in the top, two rummbles, two memories. official carry case thingy might have to ebay it.... what could it be worth?

I don't think the N64 is that valuable just now but haven't looked into it. The carry case and accessories will improve things though :)

sweet. ive got golden eye :). got some of my favs too.
obviously marrio kart.
FzeroX just for the unlimited game play. awsomely before it time in the joker cup.
Zelda.
banjo and kazooie.. haha defo going on at the weekend. ill wack a linky up incase anyone is interested :)

Last week or two I was playing a bit of Phantasy Star Online on the Dreamcast.

Seemingly you can still connect those things to the interwebs and do some online gaming, though it looks affy complicated :(

Still, maybe something for later in the year.
