Posts: 263 Thanks: 13 Trader Rating: 0 ![]() | Ah nostalgia... I've been browsing a thread over on pistonheads where a dad got his 17 year old son a mint mk2 polo breadvan for £150 as a learner shed. My first car was one of these and if I could find a decent one for that sort of money I'd snap it up but sadly good quality ones are now going for silly prices like so many other old cars. That's ok with me as I don't really have somewhere to store it and with unemployment looming can't really be spending money on cars. Or it was until the bloke posted pictures of it including a close up of the instrument display and it's quirky little lights... Suddenly a whole heap of memories came flooding back and I now seriously want another one. Yes it was basic, yes the brakes were almost non-existent, in fact the car embodied the concept of defensive driving but I loved it. It took me all over the UK as far north as Dornoch and as far south as Lands End. It would often be dangerously overloaded with people and camping equipment as it took us to places like Stratford Upon Avon for music festivals and was as cheap as anything to run. All parts were dirt cheap which was just as well back then  and even I was able to do some basic maintenance on it. So, a question for the older members on here. Are you nostalgic for your first ever car? I know Simon snapped up a mint mk1 punto he found so would anyone else do something similar? I'm now banning myself from gumtree and ebay just in case I do find a breadvan at the right price

My first car (of any note) was a mk2 golf.. quite a good 1st car, it took me all over the place as well, home made boot install comprising of some stolen mdf and hifi speakers that I broke up and wired in. Was a great wee car. B207 DGB was the plate. |

I couldn't buy back my first car if I tried as it was scrapped ![]() I was walking the dog when it was carted away on the back of a truck but I caught sight of it from the park and almost cried. Thankfully the stupid mutt provided a distraction by getting spooked by a couple of miniature poodles and running off

Angy had a breadvan Polo, maroon base model 4 speed with poo brown interior. Great little car. Trick now is finding one. I did rather like the "coupe" model though.
