The bloody weather can't make up it's mind what it's doing atm.

This morning it was chucking it down with rain and the roads were more like rivers than highways and this evening on the way home the temperature had dropped to 3°C. Seems like the right time to put the winters on the car right? Except according to the forecast the temperature goes up again tomorrow afternoon and is due to hit a balmy 15°C on Friday. Not quite 4 seasons in 1 day but definitely 4 in 1 week rolleyes.gif[/attachment:ejqm1m6t]

I'm tempted to put them on anyway as I mind a lot less bumping over unclassified pot-holed roads in the dark on steelies rather than the alloys. Add to the fact the farmers are coating the roads in mud which in turn gets transferred to the car I may as well have the correct wheels on to finish off the industrial look.

I should probably paint mine at some point but the chances of it happening? Pretty much close to zero  They'd certainly look a lot better if I did though...

What paint should be used?

I will be putting on the winter grips as soon as im home, i just dont like having them on when over 10°.. prob no difference apart from higher wear but im weird like that haha

It's actually cheaper for me to wear out the winter tyres than the summers so I'm not as fussed with running them in warmer weather. The summers usually cost £120 a corner as they're 205/45/17 and not that common. Can't remember what exactly the winters are or what they cost but I drop to 15" and I remember thinking at the time how cheap they were. If it wasn't for the god-awful look and extra road noise I'd probably keep them on all the time lol

bet £120 is cheap compared to the trucks though :p

I'm just using normal sating black (though mine are alloys), will see how tough it is when dry, if it chips easy i'll give it another coat then clearcoat lacquer the **** out of them

Not really actually, ive been looking at getting MAN tyres.. heehee general grabber at2's or coopers, they are all terrain tyres so i can maybe do a tad offroading as well, they come in at roughly 100-150 a corner

I'm not sure if I'm relieved or sad we're no longer based in the shed at my work. I'd quite like to see you tackle that hill in the dutch barn but also wouldn't want to deal with the fallout if it all went wrong eek.gif[/attachment:1wrfpvk3]

Perhaps Groundskeeper Donnie would get you access if you still want to try them ;p

Well if im still able to do that 'thing' (28 days later) could try it then! ;)

Just put two front winter tyres on my wee Fiat Fiorino van, 175x70x14 Apollo brand (made by Vredestein), £100 fitted...Result.

Oh ****, forgot about that. In fact forget I mentioned it...unless the touran is towing weedub lol

Yeah, 28 days later should still be possible as long as they haven't started knocking things down. I'd like to get some pictures of the punto as well so we should try and get that done next time your home

14"? That should be awesome in the snow. I'm really hoping we've got Yellow sorted before the snow starts because I reckon that'll be lots of fun in the white stuff :)

That's my winter wheels down from the folks and ready to go on next week. I've also checked and the new insurance company are one of the sensible ones who don't regard changing to winter tyres as a modification rolleyes.gif[/attachment:135wrt18] This list might be handy for those of you who do switch tyres/wheels

Mine went on on Friday, parada spec 2's ain't the best in the rain or cold, switched back to my old wheels with hankooks

Although I have heard people talking about this I had never given any thought to telling my insurance company. Luckily they are on the list. I suppose technically if you are not using tyres specified or recommended by the manufacturer your insurance company might use it to get out of paying a claim. My now fitted winter shoes are Yokohama w-drive 903. I have to admit in dry warm conditions they are not as good as my standard Yokohama blue earth Tyres.

There's a light dusting of snow outside and my summer wheels are going back on the car today rolleyes.gif[/attachment:3mbpih94]
marti155, don't suppose you want to swap a 22 yr old panda for a 5-yr old grande punto?

In a word no. My car might be slow and the heater is about efeffective as an asthmatic ant coughing only with less heat. on the plus side it's reliable cheap easy to fix and brilliant in the snow. So why are the summer Tyres going back on the punto

To be fair the punto is reliable...I can rely on it to break at least once a month at the moment and for it to be expensive to fix.

Summer wheels are back on because I've busted yet another wheel on a pot hole. And in a completely unrelated issue I also have a broken front spring. Unfortunately because it's the sporting model the spring has to be ordered in and as I'm trying to get it fixed on the cheap won't be replaced until next weekend minimum and possibly later. Christ knows when the new wheel and tyre will be with me so in the mean time I'm stuck with a car which is skittery enough in the ice and snow on the summer wheels but with dodgy suspension is even worse.

I'm definitely not using it to get to work next week

Ouch busted wheel and spring that's not so good. That car seems to be giving you a load of problems. Old school cars are definitely the future for reliable motoring. Something like Simons mk1 punto would be epic.

Frankly I can't decide if the car's trying to kill me or I'm trying to kill the car. And yes that mk1 punto would be cool I'm just not sure it would be safe in my hands at the moment. Still, there's always the Yellow thing sat on the driveway if we can ever get it through the damn mot lol
