Having just waved goodbye to BST I thought I'd canvass your thoughts on winter tyres.

Do you use them? Or do you think they're over-hyped? Perhaps you're a bit meh about the idea of them. Or is storage of extra tyres/wheels putting you off

Let me know

I've never changed to winter tyres, i've never driven on winter tyres to compare against 'normals'...

I do however always check the rating of tyres before i buy them to ensure they are the most fuel efficient & best at stopping in wet.

Depends what i'm running this winter tbh, it's a bit pointless putting winter tyres on the bmw because firstly, the ground clearance turns it into a snowplough/canal boat anyway and secondly, in wet/icy conditions, i'm still more likely to struggle earlier because it's rwd.

I do think they make a difference though, just in my car, i reckon it'd struggle with winter tyres on to the point it's still worse than a "better" equipped for conditions car that had summer tyres. Seems a bit silly to spend hundreds of pounds on wheels and tyres to still be rubbish in slippy stuff compared to a Ford Ka  Then again last time we had snow, even my summer tyre shod bmw was coping ok, just a case of common sense driving and being gentle/knowing what gear to be in for best traction.

Bit if i had a car that would benefit from them, yeah, i'd fit them. Had winter tyres on the mondeo and it was very good in the wet and ice.

Hmmn, bit frosty out there this morning so I guess it's time to switch to the winters. Never bothered in the past but they make a hell of a difference on the sporting and I'm now a convert. Add to the fact my alloys get stored in a nice dry shed and the steelies bear the brunt of the salt and potholes it's win win as far as I'm concerned.

Bring on the industrial look :D

Oh yes winter grips do make a diffrence on snowy roads. I have just put my winter tyres on the panda but I notice a lose of grip on dry or just wet roads compared to my parelli tyres so its a compromise.
