Got a fault with the power assisted steering on my 2001 seicento

It has never worked but some how passed its mot last year but it coming up to that time again and I fears she won't pass this year due to the issue, these could just be fears and have no substance to them, again can someone clear this up?

I have hooked it up to my cousins advanced car diagnostics system and it can't properly communicate with the steering system which makes me think its the steering ecu that's gone!

But here's my next quandary, I don't want to source a ecu until I know for definite that that is the issue.

Just wondered if anyone knew anything on this issue and can shed any light on it?

Hope all this makes sense

Thanks in advance
Lewis

check the battery, it will turn off automaticly if the battery voltage drops too low.

also check all the fuses inside the car as failure of one of those can also do it.

it will also turn off if one of the sensors are broken. if this is the case its new steering coloum time.

The voltage is good on battery, has always been an issue and has since had new alternator and battery.

I know there is a fuse that always blows straight away in the panel in footwell however it isn't labeled on panel I shall investigate it soon,

And as for the new steering column it can take a hike haha, I've put up with it this long and it sailed an MOT before so we will just have to make it sail again haha

the brushes are probably ****ed quite common for 1 to go but both a little more rare but i replaced mine and you can do it without removing the dash just lol but its not long to take the dash out anyway :)

and power steering isnt part of an MOT anyhow so if you dont mind it not being there then leave it :)

The light comes int the mot tho :( can u give more detail on doing the brushes ill give it a bash?

If the light is part of the mot, remove the bulb ;) simple :)

A car wont fail if the power steering isn't working, it's an assistance. Electric systems are slightly different, you can fail on a hydraulic system if it's pishing fluid out etc.

It's a column swap job if it's the steering motor.

I'd just pop the bulb out tbh.

Been there tried that! It's a fu#king high intensity pcb mounted LED!

Thanks for all the help and advice guys!
using your advice and the Seicento Technical Manual from Fiat Forum i have now managed to turn the light off, the PAS still inoperative but at least the light is out so is no longer an MOT issue!!!

Thanks Again Guys!!!
