Problem time with the vec.

I've had the car 2 weeks or so, and the tax is due at the end of the month. As yet Ive no V5, as the previous owner has had to apply for a new V5. I've asked the DVLA if its possible to get a new disc without the V5, and they've given their wonderfully short and to the point answer.

Question for you then - can a car, with valid MOT certificate and Insurance Certificate, be retaxed without V5???

The previous owner will get the bit of paper telling him, he will need get tax. There is a ref number on it.

When he gets it, ask him for the ref number and buy tax online.

He will get the reminder regardless if he has the V5 or not.

Thanks
Ming

Indeed, what i was thinking, but if the refference from his tax reminder is used, would the tax disc not get sent to him?

Cheers Ming/Mark/Stew - but surely if i buy online the car will be REGISTERED to him, insured by me and if I get that far the tax disc willl get sent to him?

I like the idea of getting the ref nuimber of the reminder tho! Or, I could ask for that to be posted up here??

Why is there no V5? Was the Vec even registered to the guy you got it from. I only ask cos it's it's a common vehicle for pikies.

buy it with plenty tax, never register it and punt it before tax and mot runs out.

I believe he lost it. He had reapplied before I bought the car, but the DVLA appear to be dragging their heels (surprise surprise)

He's not a pikey, but where his flat is in Edinburger does look a bit like Butlins, as Mark will verify!

Can i just add ive had the cinq a year and i still havent recieved a v5 for it despite all the paperwork being correct?

Ive recieved some in 3 weeks, but they aint always fast.

It took 12 weeks to get my one for the focus aswell.

They are even worse for sending copies seemingly.

I think the guy who had the vec has had it for a few years iirc, so hes taxed and mot'd it at some point

and he defo isnt a pikey!

Sorry if I've inadvertantly slagged a mate. But buying a car without a V5 is something I wouldn't do. Primarily because of some of the reasons I've posted. That and the amount of pikeys with vec estates I've seen.

Stew, you have met the previous owner ;) lol, at the campsite last year in Leven.......

anyhoo, if he wasnt known i wouldnt have told martyn about the car in the first place, im not exactly a fan of buying a car without a v5 myself, but heis deffo kosher.

Yes this is true guys but all Martyn was thinking about was being able to sell the bootfull of clothes pegs at the upcoming meetings...........

"Fiat-Scotland pegs, £1 for 20! or with a coaster £5. Palms read £10!" :haha:

Thanks for the help guys, spoke to the previous owner last night.

DVLA have told him to nip into one of their offices, where they'll apparently sort him out with a copy of the V5 more or less on the spot. So all being good I should be able to keep the vec on the road next week!

All those caravans and Vectras. That's the main reason I sat round the edge.. Wanted to keep all you pikies where I could see you. :p
