I bought some lovely infinity 6x9's the other month and still have not fitted them, anyone have some tips so i dont completly skrew it up!

you'll need some speaker cable and a couple of spade terminals.

if you're planning on running the 6x9s from your head unit, just cut the wires for the standard rear speakers and connect your 6x9s (with the new speaker cable) to the wires you just cut using the spade terminals.
job done

i thought that i had logged in, but it took me two attempts to log in when i realised that i hadn't been logged in. if that makes any sense

if ur fitting them on a shelf use the inside ring of the grill suround to mark the shelf, then using a jigsaw gently cut out the shape then screw ur speakers inplace with some big self tapers or nuts n bolts,

if ur handy with a jigsaw bin that idea and make a new shelf out of mdf, the sound will be better and will not sag n rattle after a few months,

i did it with mine, ill add a pic later 2day

hope that helps

best thing to do mate is just use the standard shelf as a template(ie draw a line round it onto smoe mdf and then cut the extra mdf off) then it depends wheathere or not you want the speakers showin or hidden?? if you want them showing jus cut the holes where you want them(usin the template provided with the speakers) and them trim the shelf and fit the speakers, if you want them hidden you could either

1. cut a hole big enough for the hole speaker to drop through and then make a plate to be screwed to the underside of the shelf to hold the speaker on,
OR
2.jus make the hole as if you were fittin the speakers so they would be on show and then as before make a plate to go on the underside and sandwich the speakers in so they wont come off

if your makin it stealth(so there hidden) jus put the acoustic carpet over the top of the speakers and the job will be sorted! :D

hope that helps mate aint made a stealth shelf before so i might have a couple of things wrong but sure someone will correct me

yeah pretty much wot he said, but 1 thing to add

if u want a stealth shelf glue down a bit of fine mesh (b&q cheapy stuff) over the holes then lay the fabric down, this will stop the fabric from sagging over time and making the holes noticable.

take ur time with it, always cut bits off slowly, remember u can always cut more mdf off, but u cant put it back on, if ur not sure about covering it ask a mum, there always great for stuff like that, my mum covered mine for me!!

Cheers very much guys, think i will have a go at it surin the week, so a trip into aberdeen for mdf and bits to make it out of!

well i fitted the 6x9's today, i didnt make a new shelf as the current one seems fairly sturdy allready, but im going to get some acoustic carpet to hide the buggers away from any prying eyes (either that or put my granny rug over the shelf when ever i park up!)

And didnt i forget to buy some bloody spade connecters too?!?!? oh well theres allways tomorrow.

Well got the 6x9's working, they provide a better range of sound, and sound a bit clearer, but there a bit lacking in the bass department, to get any bass you have to turn the stereo right up, and to be honest i dont want to drive around with the tunes pumping all the time.

Time to get a sub me thinks.

not sure of the exact model, but i have a kenwood head unit.

have a fiddle with the bass and treble settings. not too much treble with a little bit more bass. if you haven't  tried that already

Tried that allready, will just have to get a sub when i have the cash.

Fronts need changing too now, so instead of getting ones for the dash going to get some infinitys for the doors, not sure which ones tho!

to be honest mate, if you're gonna get components and a sub, there's actually no real need for the 6x9s. they give the sound an un-equal balance and interfere with the sub. the comp's are enough imo

Could you explain a bit more about ICE, are components just classed as your usuall round speaker? obviously you can get varying sizes, but what about when seperate tweeters and stuff come into it, are they any better than say a 2 way speaker?

na, components aren't just any round speaker- they have a woofer in them for the high-range bass(like a tiny sub) and are good for the vocals aswell(the tweeter)- and the sub will give you the mid-range bass. altogether doing different things at different points in the car, it sounds well nice.

6x9s try to do all the above, and "get in the way" by fighting for air with your sub(which causes both to distort)-hence why they aren't needed-cause you'll already have different speakers doing what the 6x9s do

so, there ya go-if that makes any sense
