Technical Bio-Fuel (Cooking oil)

Has anyone experimented with cooking oil or other bio fuels in their Diesel Fiorino or Uno? If so how did the fuel pump fair with it?

I ran my LDV Pilot and Renault Extra (worst van ever) on a diesel and cooking oil mixture and both ran smoother than on pure derv with no performance difference. The advantage of course is cost of cooking oil compared to diesel in this country and its cleaner burning (and nicer smell haha).

The problem is some fuel pumps are killed off by cooking oil (lucas ones apparantly). Is the 1.7D (naturally aspirated) running a lucas pump? I don't mind experimenting on LDVs and HORRENDOUS Renaults but i'm not risking a thing in my Fiorino! :worship:

Any information would be gratefully received.

hi i used to run my uno 1.7 on tesco rapeseed doing a 75/25 mix in summer and 50/50 in winter and had no problems at all, oh i did bypass the filter as the bleed valve was knackered....

75/25 in favour of Diesel or rapeseed?

As long as the fuel pump was fine i'm happy to subject the filter to it. Cheap and clean motoring here i come!

'biofuels' that you can buy can sometimes come pre-mixed with ethanol which will degrade rubber fuel pipes and cause problems.

pre-heating the engine will help - veg oil doesnt like the cold. thats why ya man advised 50:50 in winter and 75:25 (in favour of veg oil) in summer.

interesting fact - rudolf diesel invented his engine to run on peanut oil in the late 1800's........

75 RAPESEED 25 DIESEL,
IN MY UNO I DID AN AMAZING ROUND TRIP FROM NORFOLK TO BRISTOL ON 20.00 WHICH IS AROUND 350 MILES, ON RAPESEED SOME PEOPLE ACTUALLY MIX A BIT OF PETROL WITH IT TO THIN IT DOWN OR WHITE SPIRIT, IVE TRIED MOST BUT STILL OPTED FOR THE DIESEL OPTION, ON MY OLD ASTRA TURBO DIESEL THE PERFORMANCE WAS ACTUALLY BETTER TOO, AS WAS THE UNO..
IN YE-OLDE DAYS LORRIES AND TRACTORS USED IT ALL THE TIME...

On 2nd July the European Parliament voted that the mineral oil directive (92/81/EEC) should be ammended. The amendment report recommended that pure plant oil should get full tax exemption due to it being the solution with the best social, environmental and economic benefits. The report weighed so much in favour that it recommends that the use of pure plant oil should get additional encouragement.:slayer: :slayer:

Yeah, i think its an absolute travesty that using bio fuel isn't tax exempt. Indeed it should be encouraged! The government and every opposition party bangs on about going green and taking the environment seriously yet we are still burning fossil fuels?

Pinks was spot on when he/she said Rudolf Diesel intended the engine to run on peanut oil as it was designed to be easily operated in countries where petro-chemical fuels were not the norm. Of course the reason is simple... the government makes rather a lot of money from petrochemical fuels
