Technical Battery size

Technical Battery size

Can Someone confirm the correct size and rating
The one currently fitted is I believe to be wrong as the the strap that holds the battery down is slack so the battery is not tall enough
LUIGI

Slack on our Qubo also. The main clamp holds it in place, so it’s fully secure. Strap is only really a secondary and prevents the clamp going walkies when undone. Can’t say it’s a concern.

Not the original battery of course, but my current one measures 24x17cm with a height of 19cm. Strap is pretty tight and the clamp also holds it from the bottom.

BTW the tip of the tape measure didn't go under the battery so it's measuring from the top of the tray. I can confirm it's 19cm's tall.

Cheers for that I really thought it was around 190 high and the strap should be tight
All you guys that have loose straps and only 175mm high batteries have fitted the wrong ones
Managed to get hold of fiat tech guy at Peterborough branch and the strap should be tight around the battery
Mentioned the wood idea and he thought that was a bodge as I do
Anyway I definitely know what to get now
Luigi

Strangely on the multipla the strap appears to be there to stop anyone losing the battery hold down clamp which is attached to the end of the strap-fine idea fiat(-:

All of my 'bigger FIATs' have had that.. as there is no way to get a hand down the gap

But.. they have all worked as a 'toe.clamp'
Stopping the battery base sliding out of its retaining groove in the tray

Thinking about this.. the Grande's have a plastic wedge that clips into the tray..

So the battery is pushed away from headlight and the wedge then clipped into holes in the floor of the tray
( 1.2 petrols use smaller batteries than 1.9 diesels..all share the same tray )

Hi
Looking at your pictures your battery strap is tight around the battery as it should be but it seems that most of the guys on here have loose straps and so it seems I have to use lumps of wood to sort my issue out
Fiat part number for 2x1 timber anyone?

In fairness..
For years my cars have been primitive.. so access to the toe.clamp was simple.. and it held the battery well

No straps..or odd bracketry required

The cinq-sei use a flat strip of steel across the battery top and 2 x 6" long threaded rods .. these are often seen with wood underneath as a packer..
Not 2 x 1 though.. that sounds an odd size

Hi
But when I checked on many parts sites it says the 027 does not fit
Will the alternator be OK with higher than 50 Ah?
I'm pretty sure that 50Ah is the maximum I can go, but the size you mentioned is the correct dimensions that I need, but all the parts places I've been on say this is not the correct one
Luigi

The storage capacity of the battery has no effect on the current output of the alternator.

Lots of parts sites will say a particular battery will not fit because it is not the exact size of the battery fitted by the factory however a physically larger battery may fit perfectly.

50Ah is the amount of power stored in the battery before it goes flat, so a higher number means it will last longer in the case of an alternator fail or current drain while engine is off, CCA (A) or Cold Cranking Amps a higher number is always better on this.

If your not sure just measure your battery tray dimensions.

Sites list an 027 (242x175x190) for my Fiat Stilo due to it being what the factory fitted. I have a 096 (278x175x190) battery fitted due to the size of the battery tray (standard factory fitted battery tray).
