As I'm fitting a cone filter and ditching the current Air box engine cover will this maff work?
The one pictured on the left is the one currently fitted to oem setup with the two lugs that bolt to air box but the one on the right is what I'm after, this one is fitted to a Vauxhall CDTI engine and would solve the issue.
Is there any reason why this will not work as i don't want the lugs on my new set up
The connector is identical as well as the engine capacity and output hp
Luigi

How are you piping it in? I wanted to do the same thing, but so far I only have the pod filter and a 45 degree reducer silicone pipe to replace the stock one that feeds into the turbo. Will need to somehow feed the breather tube into it, not sure how though other than to drill a small hole in it.

Have you tried fitting the pipes? The original MAF seems to have about 2 cm extension after the bolt part. If you remove the O-Ring there it might have just enough length for a hose clamp and new MAF might not be required at all...

This is a great mod BTW. I hate the stock filter housing as only the small part of the filter is actually filtering and it's not sealing on the sides because of bent plastic...

So keep us posted...

Can you explain why it's better than stock please? Might be worth considering if this works (well..)

I doubt it qualifies as such a 'mod' as to involve the insurance company  ?

Here is what I mean by that "flimsy" plastic... My filter box is very similar to this picture and there is little film of dust inside the pipes after the filter.

Another reason also take a look at the filter picture above, that dirty part is where it sucks the air to the box.

It's much better design on the newer Multijet II's however.

Hi
Thats exactly the same issue as mine and my cover is broken on the right
This sort of cover is over kill for what it is actually supposed to do and not very well in my opinion
I just don't like lugs that will be there like i said Corsa c and others with the 1.3 CDTI Engine are the same without lugs
I now have the all the parts to complete this project and i will post up some pics when its done
The filter will end up on top of the L/H engine mount as there is a big area there big enough to take the cone filter as it's 7'' in diameter at the bottom

Can you take a pic of the components you are adding before they go in then a completed pic plus then one of the removed parts?

Add in whatever mods you (might have) made to ensure the sensors still work and don't fudge up the ECU ;)

When I had a Smart 2 seater, I read about a mod to the body side-mounted air intake. It had a rubber ring on the moulding inside on the pipe fastened to the body which held the visible external cover (it just pulled off). That simply needed to be peeled off and thus the airflow was super-smooth where before it had had to go past the ring causing all sorts of turbulence on its path to the carb. After the doctoring, performance was somewhat improved (y)

Thanks!

(P.S. my engine is an 80 PS so there might be some slight changes to things like the air filter body? I guess it'll be fairly similar overall..)

The bracket to hold the filter is made from a flat bar I had, and the hose clip saddle bracket is bolted that then the whole thing is bolted to the top engine mount
You can see the maff is bolted to the engine cover with two 10mm bolts, I'm using this maff for now but I have the new one without fixing lugs due any day
The oem air intake is just a push fit on the front of the cover and the other end is held on by one 20mm nut, you can see the fixing in the centre of the picture

TEST DRIVE
Took Luigi out for a spin to test
I would say that acceleration is slightly improved
There is a slight induction noise when the pedal is on the floor which is down to where the filter is mounted [Nice throaty sound]
There was no issue with the maff regarding throwing up codes
I will check MPG over the next few days and report back with that result
But so far all is good

Yours is looking tidier than mine! I finished it up today but I don't have a bracket to hold the filter in place yet so it is just resting in position for the moment. I had to fashion a DIY breather tube connector out of random bits, and it's working fine for now. Mine has a noticeable difference in turbo sound and blow off. Where is the turbo located in yours?

Luigi looking good! Silver filter looks good with the engine. I had to go blue of course.
